Tobacco and curing
i was wondering if any of you guys grow tobacco yourself!?
i tested out the tobacco i grew last year and suprisingly it was very smooth and had nearly no taste so the taste of the real herb was dominant. so i thought about giving it some good taste but curing is very difficult to do because you need a special room where the temperatures have to be over 110°! i put some coffee liqour over one leave yesterday and it totaly over took the smell! i dont know yet if it really will taste like coffee liqour but lets see ![]() any of you have experience growing and curing tobacco? when my new seeds are popped i can post some pictures! |

I've grown tobacco with some good success. I've read the curing process is a pain in the ass. The pros cure it for a year or so, in specific conditions.
I cured mine hanging upside down in the garage, which left it a little harsh. But it smoked, and it definitely was tobacco. But I didn't smoke very much of it, because I try not to smoke tobacco, even if its my own. Pretty flowers though. Also rolled a nice blunt with one of the tobacco leaves. |

I'm interested in it, but the curing process has always scared me away. IIRC, a proper 'cure' takes 2-4 years to accomplish. Is this correct?
BTW, did you grow the commercial variety or nicotina rustica? |

I grew a purple flowered variety of Nicotiana tabaccum. Organic of course. A proper cure would make a big difference, but I didn't have the capacity.

ive grown quite a few tobaccos
nicotiana tabacum n. rustica n. sylvestris n. glauca rustica and sylvestris are my faves rustica for the effects sylvestris has the taste (jasmine scented flowers, awesome) i am working on curing small batches, never set up a large system but it is kind of annoying you jsut need soem heat and humidity, and hte less heat the longer it needs to cure/ferment (the heat/humidity stage 'ferments' the leaf breaking down chlorophylls etc and then storage is curing to induce the flavor although you can smoke it after fermenting and shorten the curing stage. theres soem DIY setups on the interwebz if you look

Well, I was going to throw up a thread regarding tobacco until I saw one that hasn't aged considerably since its last visitor. Has everyone got their tobacco started for this year? I've about 20 sprouts of Turkish in my peat pucks, and they'll be going out as soon as the weather is nice enough and I get the ground prepared. I can't wait to see these babies grow.

I've got some rustica that I've been doing for the last few years. To cure, we have a closet next to the shower without a door in the bathroom. We hang it up in there and forget about it. The steam from showers in the mornings makes for a smooth earthy cure after a few months.

Jack, is the nicotine in rustica as hardcore after a long cure as it is freshly dried. Have you ever used it as a halucinogen?
Puff, yes. |

Rustica just has high levels of nicotine.
Better using as a poison than a smoke. |
