I suggest Weeks NC Giant. I grew one in the back yard in soil that weighed 174 lbs. It quit putting on weight at the end of June because it got hot outside.
The NC Giant has the current world record. It's Weeks seeds dot com. I don't think hydro is the way to go unless you have to grow inside. But it can be done. I think your biggest problem is gonna be watering such a big pumpkin. Mine drank 10 gallons of water each day with lots of Miracle Grow food. It loved it. Keep your temps in the 60s and low 70s to encourage it to get bigger. They like cool temps. Pinch off all the pumpkin blooms except for the ones you want to keep. You will have to hand pollinate your indoor pumpkins for them to set pumpkins. They love nutes, I gave mine 5 gallon bucket of MG every day with 0 burn. Hope you win the contest. I lost the year I grew my pumpkin. The winner's was 400 lbs. I just knew I was gonna win that $10k |

The Atlantic Giant holds the current World Record at 1689 pounds. The title is held by Joe Jutras of RI.
Howard Dills site, mentioned above is a good place for seeds if you purchase from their superior stock. You can also try https://www.pandpseed.com/ and https://www.seedoutlet.com/2008.html. For great genetics that are free you can go to www.bigpumpkins.com, start a thread in their seed swap forum asking for seeds. Lot's of info there on how to do it right. I think it could be done in a hydro set-up at considerable cost. In order to get that fruit as large as possible you need as many secondaries before the fruit rooted as possible, which would require a very large hydroponic outfit. Most AG's are givin at least 400 - 750 square feet to grow in.
