Anyone have experience with Stevia in Hydro??

I'm looking into replacing my sugar consumption with a Stevia plant or two.

Has anyone gone hydro with these? If so, what's your experience.

Anyone that's gone organic soil with this, I'm interested in that as well.

I figure that as long as I keep each plant to it's own container, I'll not have any issues

Looking at setting up 5gal Drink Coolers filled with lava-rock.

There is an intersting article on stevia in maximum yield (its either Jan 09 or Dec 08).

Thanks! That helps a lot.

So it's a light feeder, especially nitrogen, and loves phosphorous. Mmmmmkay. This should be interesting.

I'll be starting dirt then, with a starter plant (local nursery) and will have to work out the best rooting process for cuttings in my situation.

This will definitely be an interesting project but I see it taking at least a year. LOL

I would imagine that cuttings would produce just as potent product in hydro as the mum. (Since it takes 2 years to reach optimum potency, or something along those lines)

Stevia is really pH tolerant in hydro. You just can't push the ppm's much. The cuttings root easily in rockwool. It's an easy peasy plant to work with.

I've done stevia in hydro before in a drip system. It's very tolerant of well, pretty much anything other than overfeeding. It is also highly productive in very airy soil mixes.

Be VERY careful of the pollen if you get flowers. Apparently it can be a very potent allergen to some people. (and a hard one to figure out, it's not like we have fields of stevia most places).
