They want more magnesium and less calcium than tomatoes. Less nitrogen too. They're not heavy feeders like cukes.

I have lousy luck with bell peppers but great luckwith non-bell sweet peppers such as cubanelles, bull's horns, and that kind of thing.

They'd do well in MG potting soil and some EWC. I usually grow mine in clay soil and they do fine outside.

bell peppers:

they do well in most any soil that is close to neutral (slightly acidic at times for food), get em planted early (at least where i'm at), and also plan to do some staking of some sort as they will eventually lean all the way down till the peppers sit on the soil if you do not.......I also like to remove some fruits as per biological trade-off principles.....in order to get nicer sized peppers............nothing like waiting a season and coming up a few weeks short.......

Definately take the staking measures then -----or else they will bend past the pots all the way to the ground.........probably wont snap though.........but it will affect the fruits (the wet ground that is)

Throw the beefstakes in a pot and let em go---------seriously....practically don't even need nutes........brocolli is nice but watch for the aphids --- they love to get mixed into the whirl ---- or at least they seem to attract to my romanesqco brocolli

btw---- try growing some hot peppers, chilies an herbs..........those are great for pots -----maybe even an ever-bearing raspberry/blackberry bramble LOL

really cacti can be very fun too.........and beautiful...and

Good luck
