Question Biko BX1 update

Well, guess what I found when giving the ol’ fridge a thorough cleaning?

Yup, behind those storage drawers . . . way, way back in the coils of the cold water reservoir was stashed a 10 seed pack of Biko BX1 that I picked up on a SB auction a few years back for like, 20 bucks. Haw! . . . Sometimes I hide things so good even I can’t find them…

Anyway, they look to be in pretty good shape and are the size of freaking ping-pong balls! Well, this fortuitous sign from the Ghanga Gods, combined with an increasing need for meds of this kind among myself , friends and significant others is enough to convince me it’s time to get back into gardening after a two year hiatus due to safety and security concerns. This Biko BX1 looks to be an awesome strain and is, hopefully, just what we need.

Now, I was getting fairly familiar with hydro back before I had to quit gardening, and I really liked the speed, cleanliness and overall superior results this method produced, but I have to start growing for now in a BBQ sterilized, homemade, soil less soil mix I made up from perlite, vermiculite and boiled peat with hort. lime and a little Milorganite added afterward just to inoculate the mix with some kind of beneficial fauna. Even though I’m sold on Hydro -- no more lugging and disposing of “dirt” (whatever that is) for me -- I use to grow and maintain my Mothers in just such a soil(less) type media mix and since I have to start completely over again from scratch with seeds anyway, this seems the best course for now.

I’ve also got a lot of reading to do to catch up on what’s new in the grow world since back when. In particular, I’ve been searching for info on Biko BX1 - as much as I can find anyway - which isn’t a whole lot compared to some strains. This thread and the great pics are a big help, but I was hoping to bump this thread with a few questions. Any answers or comments would be greatly appreciated.

1. Is this strain hard to clone? I generally use some kind of homemade bubbler, but I’ve also used/am familiar with and have on hand: perlite, wick set-ups, rock wool cubes and trays, etc . . .
2. How long should one veg.? I’m hoping to find a compact, indica shaped phenotype ideal for a SOG set-up that also has excellent Med qualities. HA! I don’t ask for much, do I?
3. Is she sensitive to nutes or what? I’ll eventually be using GH three part in a flood and drain under a 1K hort-a-lux and I usually just grow/maintain my Mothers in my soil-less mix fed with an appropriately strengthed/ratioed version of the 3-part GH as needed.
4. Any other comments, tips, etc., about this strain are most welcome. It sure looks to be promising, the genetics are there, and hopefully it will be good for what ails us. Eventually, (hopefully) I’ll have some $$ to try other strains, obtain newer, improved equipment, nutes etc. but for now I must make due with the leftovers from my last set-up ‘cause I is po’.

Its hell to be sick . . . that cancer is a real M.Fker. I sincerely wish all who suffer from whatever ailment, and in particular the good folks at AnnaC, the very best of luck -- along with the strength to deal with whatever challenges life throws at us.

Thanks especially for making this Biko BX1 and other great strains available at such reasonable prices.

I’ll post pics eventually when I have something to show.

PEACE…

BIKO BX1 UPDATE!

OK, as promised a little update on my Biko BX1 project. Using ten 2 yr old seeds, 7 germinate and live, 3 are males -- thus leaving four females of very similar phenotype; a rather broad -leaf, Indica looking plant. Very Bog-like in appearance, nice, but not extreme branching.

These babies can take the nutes -- planted in soiless mix they took GH 3-2-1 full strength right after the second set of true leaves showed and were switched to Lucas Formula after being sexed from preflowers.

I saved a nice, robust, early showing male to generate seed stock once I pick my fave girl. It's odd -- theoretically, the male is as important in imparting desired traits as the female, but that of potency is hard to test for. I've read stories of people making hash from their males to select for this trait, but I often wonder if this isn't a sell story for their line.

Anyway, if I can figure out how to correctly upload, they should show. I need to get better at this, but hey, we all have to be beginners before we can be experts.

These are shown right before clone time and there's a more sativa type, a W. Widow X in some frames for comparison. Think they're getting enough N? Ha!

Clone away quickly and it's into bubbler for early tops and homemade "areo" cloner as branching develops. It's all about getting there as fast as possible.

Homemad ebb and flow flood table next - yeah I'm working on it

Hell no, Vince -- pics of your lovely buds with their purple-kissed foliage are most welcome and a real tease. Oops!, I meant a real treat, their frosty dankness spurring me on to greater effort.

A couple things I've noticed concerning this plant:

1. They're real easy to clone -- and fast too!

2. They've kicked out pre-flowers quicker than any plant I've ever grown and those pre-flowers are huge! From the sixth node up, on the main stem's top, they almost look like they're starting to go into serious flower -- this, even though the light-cycle is a consistant 20/4. I'm hoping this is just a sign of a propensity for abundant flower production and not a screw-up on my part or some auto-flower trait. There is no mention of any auto-strain in it's background.

Anyway, thanks for the inspirational pics and good luck with your Kush, you lucky guy.

BTW, nice looking dog ya got there . . .
