Vertical Grow From Seed

Hi Everyone,

Just started my first grow - here's my progress so far.....

Cabinet is still under construction - will be using a single 400W HPS for flowering in a vented 2' by 2' by 4' vertical setup. Pretty much a large NGB style cabinet - electricals/fans will be in the top left hand corner - panel concealing everything for added quietness and neatness with timers on front. Lower left will house mothers and clones.

Entire cabinet measures: 4' high, 2' deep and 3 1/2' wide.

Cabinet Design

3/2 - Seeds ordered (Doctor Chronic)

18/2 - Seeds arrive discreetly packaged

19/2 - 5 Seeds (Swiss Bliss) put to germinate using paper towel method

21/2 - 3/5 seeds cracked showing tap root transferred to rockwool placed on window sill (1st MISTAKE details below...)

Day 1- 24/2 - 1st 2 Seedlings popped through Rockwool, first signs of cotyledon

Day 2 - 25/2 - 3rd Seedling popped through Rockwool, first signs of cotyledon

Day 3 - 26/2 - Cabinet still not completed seedlings showing almost 4" of growth still with only cotyledon no true leaves....

Built a temporary cabinet until main cabinet is completed.

Day 4 - 28/2 - Seedlings put under 4 * 24W Phillips Tornado CFL (box says these are equivalent to 125W - so 500W equivalent???) / nutes started (1/4 strength) - Put almost 2" of stem below hydroton to keep height down - read this helps reduce stress on seedlings...

Lighting cycle is 18/6.

Using a 15L plastic storage container with 2 3.5" netpots with drippers running 15min every 2 hours (during light cycle only) - and a bubble wand with airpump running 24/7.

Day 5 - 1/3 - 2nd set of true leaves appear on largest seedling - slight nute burn? on largest seedling - will monitor

Day 7 - 3/3 - Nute burn does not appear to be affecting any of the other seedlings - has stopped on largest seedling

Day 8 - 4/3 - Water Change - Nutes upped to 2/3 Strength

Day 9 - 5/3 - Largest seedling has 5 sets of leaves

Day 9 Photos

Any Comments Welcome

Thanks!

Quick Question: These are un-feminized seeds - would the best way to determine sex be to allow these to veg for another 3-4 weeks - take cuttings for clones and then flower the originals while letting the clones veg??? or should I be flowering the clones - keeping the originals for mothers?

Looks great man. I would recommend that once you get them taller to put some fencing around the bulb so the lights don't grow into it and you can established a defined foot print. Otherwise some plants will crowd the bulb and you get less yield. Kinda like a vertical sea of green. check it...
