"PORTLAND, Ore. -- Oregon lawmakers will soon consider a bill that would ban pit bulls in Oregon.

Legislators proposed the bill after a number of recent pit bull attacks. However, the proposed bill has led some pit bull owners to claim they're being targeted unfairly because of irresponsible dog owners.

In the United States, many cities and counties -- from San Francisco to Sioux City -- have already passed pit bull bans. Many Oregonians said pit bulls are too risky to people and other pets.

"I just don't trust them and anytime I see them, I go running for cover," said Michelle Baker, who lives in

Hillsboro.


The proposed law would declare pit bulls dangerous and make owning them in Oregon a crime with punishment of jail time and hefty fines. The state could also mandate that pit bulls be euthanized.

Natalie Buck, who breeds and raises pit bulls at her home in Tigard, had six pit bull puppies for sale Sunday. She said dog owners remain a greater problem than the breed itself.

"Granted, they could hurt somebody -- that's always a potential with any dog," Buck said. "But I'm responsible about them -- keeping them in the yard."

While the pit bulls appeared loving with Buck around, she acknowledges the dogs can do more harm than other breeds when she's not there.

"One bite from a pit bull versus one bite from a Chihuahua or an Australian shepherd -- the pit bull's bite could potentially be more dangerous," Buck said. "They just have more muscle, more strength in that one bite."

The draft bill adds a grandfather cause for those who already own pit bulls; however, those pit bull owners would be required to buy a permit and would have to spay and neuter the dogs."


I think this is total bullshit. They should forbid people keeping dogs on chains big enough to pull an 18wheeler out of a mud hole.

most likely because her neglegant acts as an owner has probably
led to an unfriendly encounter with her dog and a pitbull,,, like
the many many many brainless dog owners who think they have
the right to let their dog run unleashed in a public open enviorment
where immediate control leash laws are in effect to keep these sort
of incidents from arrising in the first place....

the only people who hate these dogs,, are people who have ZERO
interaction with this breed,,,and take all their views and thoughts
from news and talk radio...and it is alawys so fucking biased against pits.
they talk about how someone was bit by a pitbull,, yet they dont bother to
tell you that the "victim" came to the guys house with the intent to fight,
and when his dog percieved this person as a threat,, attacked him. thats not
an attack,,, thats called DEFENSE>>pitbulls are some of the most loyal
creatures ever and will give their life to help their owner.....

ive only had a few incidents with my dogs,,, and it has ALWAYS
been because of an immediate threat to myself, or another
owner is letting his animals run off leash and they come up
to my dogs like a kobe steak on a silver platter......

id love to let my dogs off the leash too,, you think i like dragging around
a few hundred pounds of canine? hell no, but i know what sort of animals
these are ,, and i know what sort of animals are out there. so i WONT muzzle
my dogs,,, but i do keep them at immediate control. so if YOUR dog gets attacked,
because your too lazy and neglegant to act responsible and keep them on a leash,
there is nobody to blame but yourselfs......

I have a pit and she woudnt hurt a fucking think. I also have a 150 pound mastiff that would destroy anything that comes in the house. First thing people say when they see them is "is the pit safe?" WTF

All i can say is there gonna have a fuck of a time getting me to put my dogs down or even neutering them. My dogs are all sweet as a fuckin golden labs, ha but dont fuck around, theyll fuck you up if i want them to, but so will the blue heeler i have. thats on me though not a natural inclination toward violence. if that was the case blue heelers should be banned, there naturally nippy violent dogs, same with fuckin weiner dogs. consistency is key in government, they cant focus on a breed like this because someones afraid of them, im afraid of the rotty at the junk yard, so i dont fuck with em. if theres a rabid pit running around your hood biting people, fucking shoot it. not any different then any other dog. your dog is a direct result of its human, knowing this dog owners need to be controlled, violent, unstable, iresponsible people shouldt own any dog i dont care if it a pomeranian. period.
