shifty grow chronicles: big buddha cheese

Hi yall! I've been lurking about the forums for a while now, and figured I should do a grow thread. I've obtained a lot of good info over the years from icmag and overgrow (RIP!) and I just want to share what I am doing now. I'm not the best grower and I'm a bit of a slacker, but I'd figure I take y'all on a journey of my big buddha cheese clones and hope their development will be a learning experience not only for myself, but for other folks as well...

The bbc is a very forgiving strain. I don't exactly have the best temps, but it is very cold tolerant. I admit, the clones look a little ratty right now, they are experiencing a bit of transfer shock, but I did check about a day later and most of the plants have regained turgidity. I hope to make updates of this thread at least once a week...

now some pix...

Here is some cheese that I have late in flower. The clones in the previous post are from the same mother plant. I'm still trying to get a handle on macros, so bear with me. I had the bad luck of having to battle thrips, earlier, so the plants were a little stressed. I gave 'em a dose of dilute sm-90, scorpion juice, and diamond nectar. That seemed to do the trick. They recovered pretty well, but I'm sure I lost some product. Live and learn!

They are in the 7th week-ish. Right now, they kinda have a putrid fruity smell....

The cheese cuttings are looking better now. There is evidence of new growth. The new growth has very short internodal length. The plan was to prevent the stretch. This BBC pheno has a tendency to stretch. However, I feel the internodal length is a little short, so I raised the light to remedy this.

7th week .... interesting, mine are about the same age, can't say if they have a distinct smell as they're in with some G Force and Master Kush

I'll see if I can get a pic up of them

I did say 7 weekish...now more like 8...it has a fruity-putrid smell, but I'm definitely using odor control. The cheesy-B.O. reek, from my experience, came from the cured buds. I'll post a pic of the harvested buds later. I'm going to try to replicate this grow learning from my previous mistakes....

week 4

ok here they are at week 4. Some observations....

I lowered the light to mitigate stretching and the guys didn't stretch as much as I thought they would. Basically, I put these babies straight into flower without any veg phase. The buds are forming nicely, but the plants are smaller than anticipated. Lesson learned: next time, put clones in veg phase, maybe 7-14 days oh well! Live and learn! They have been holding up to the cold temps pretty well (52 F lows), which is a testament to the durability of the genetics. In anticipation of the stretch, I kinda overdid it on the N a little, but I can work that out without adversely damaging the plant. Other than a bit of a stumble, the plants seem to be getting along nicely.

week 5

Time to update the chronicles! The gals have put on weight...this is a good thing!

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I recall in my last grow using Humboldt Nutrients Gravity. I read somewhere on this site that upon reusing grow media with Gravity in the solution can have residual effects on plants, notably stunted growth. This may be why my plants did not stretch during the first phase of flowering.

On the plus side, even though I feel my harvest will be somewhat small, the residual gravity may contribute to make these plants have denser nugs. The internodal spacing is real tight and the plant also kicked out plenty of pistils.

The odor is starting to kick in...it's kinda fruity-putrid. They are also getting frosty. The nitrogen is also becoming depleted. This is like the major nutrient intake phase of the plant.

cheese phase 2

OK, this is where I kinda messed up and now I'm going to learn from my mistakes. I mentioned something of having a thrip problem and that I took clones from the wrong growth phase and vegged them too long. I won't knock myself too hard, but this time I think I can do better.

Below is a pic of my new set of cheese clones taken during the right growth phase. I will veg them (20/4) for a week then flip to 12/12.
