question for Mdanzig or someone knowledgeable with blue streak
Hey all, I'm new to posting here but have been a lurker for a while. I have always been intrigued by some of the benefits of autoflowers but never had to grow one. Now due to my situation, I am doing an autoflower run and I am planning to grab a pack or two of Blue Streak. I just wanted to make sure my plan is going to work out since I have no expirience growing AF's.
I was planning on starting these inside under around 500 watts worth of 6500K CFL's. My room is pretty dialed in so this is not the part I am worried about. I was planning to move these outside after they get strong enough though. My concern is...am I going to run into any problems doing this because of the light hours recieved by the plant? I will be running them inside at 20-4 or 18-6... and then moved outside where they will be getting 12+ as the season progresses (after vernal equinox). I know some plants can hermie if their light regiment is altered while they are growing so that is why I was wondering. If anyone has any input I would appreciate it. I think my outdoor spot is pretty optimal, it will be around 70-85 throughout the season and the will receive plenty of sunlight in the spot I am using. Are they going to produce well under these circumstances, or would I be better leaving them inside...? Any input is appreciated...I am looking to maximize my crop here and get the best yield from each plant since I am moving soon and don't know when my next grow will be. Thanks guys and as always, keep it green.

I just got some BS beans a few weeks ago for this season, but I have grown dieselryder, and lowryder #2.
As far as I know, changing the light regimen will not stress an AF at all. I think there is a thread where SaH even says the same thing, and he is very familiar with the BS. Also I have never had an AF hermie, and believe me, they had plenty of reason to be stressed from lighting. |

1) You should go post a quick introduction to the forum.
2) When you move them outside are you going to be keeping them in the same pot as inside or are you planning on transplanting them into the ground ? 3) At what point in its life are thinking of doing this ? I have had several LR's and one Auto AK47 and a Blue Streak male that showed female preflowers for hermies. S_a_H

Thanks for the replies guys...
S a H, I was thinking about putting them outside around 2-3 weeks in...basically just when their stems are thick enough to battle the elements, although the conditions where I am growing should be pretty optimal when they are ready to go outdoors. What do you suggest though to get the best results? Like I said, this is my first time working with autoflowers, and I was predominantly an indoor guy until now. This is all new territory for me, but I'm confident this is going to be a good 1st run given my conditions. I will be burying pots in the ground...I was thinking I am going to start them in solo cups, then maybe 3gal grow bags or some sort of deep pots. What do you think about 3gal, would that be deep enough or should I go a little larger? I do not want to constrict them at all, and I want them to be able to grow to their full potential because my location is very isolated and gets a lot of sunlight. |

Thats a real good question about doing this transplant to the outdoors. Id say you should wait though until its good and warm outside, say Beginning of June or some where near there. I think they will do just fine outdoors. Id transplant into a bigger pot about 1 week before putting them outside. I think if your moving them, and giving them less than what they were receiving, then this is something you should consider. I have not tried this, but its great to see one giving it a go. Like I said make sure its good and warm outside first.

If you are going to transplant I would do it when they show sex at about 2 weeks or so. If you transplant after that point the longer you wait the more the plant is going to suffer. It may not be much but why make it anymore then you need. If you are going to transplant after that you may double pot with the inner pots bottom cut off so you can just slide out the inner pot and just plant that whole thing in a hole.
I think anything over 2 gallon is uneeded. What you increase is not worth the cost of bigger pots and more dirt to what you get. S_a_H

Thanks for stopping in mdanzig, I appreciate it. After reading both yours and S a H's input I think I am going to plan on leaving them under the 500 or so watts of 6500K CFL's for a couple weeks, transplant them and then put them outside and see how they do. I really think they will soak up the sunlight at this spot, its very open but secluded so they should receive plenty of sunlight while it's out.
During the time these will be outside, the temps at my location are unlikely to drop below 70 or above 90, with maybe a few occasional nights in the 60's. I would imagine that is warm enough...or do these really like the heat? |

As far as the pots S a H...I had a feeling 3gal might be more than necessary, I just happen to have some 3 gal grow bags laying around so I might as well use them rather than buying new pots. It also works out nicely in that I won't have to dig out 10+ pots when these finish up.
