i have (1) 4x4 E&F table and 8 waterfarms under a 1000w hps light for flowering (tomatoes & peppers)
My vegging cabs are t5-250w x2. I would like to use a parabolic reflector for the wide spread, and I have a great A/C for the grow room. Does anyone know any reasons not to use it? |

Since I can't get any info....perhaps 'cause no one is using this right now, I ordered one and it should be in soon....I'll post how well or how poorly it does.

Cool, I always thoguht parabolic reflectors focused light to a point though. I remember my physics teacher in high school who had one and would take it outside and burn shit with it like a giant magnifying glass.

deft: boy I hope not! That would totally suck!
Well, half of my shipment came in today, the rest should be here tomorrow. I will assemble it all Sunday morning and get some things going. |

i read a write up by an MJ grower about different reflectors and their effectiveness and the spread of light. the parabolic was the one that had the even spread from center to edge. the others had all different shapes with lots of light in a small center and less to the edge..

The first light I had was a 1000 watt MH with a parabolic reflector. For anyone just using a single light I would recommend using one if you have the space. They do a great job. Just be careful and dont bump your head...

Update:I put up the parabolic light this weekend, and the room is almost completed. We need to finsih a little painting and a good clean up before we get growing. I'm going to post pics when it's ready to run. We have a ton of tomato starts ready to get into the cabinet. I'm going to top water for the first part, until I can get some dutch leach trays for them to go into. We hope to be up this week. Thanks for the comments about the parabolic. I'm excited to see what we can grow. We have a 20'x35'x16' room w/ hvac. |

don't keep us in suspense, what hood are you talking about?
you do realize, of course, that there are both vertical and horizontal parabolic hoods, the most well known of the latter being the "Vertizontal" hoods which i have heard great things about if you are talking about the vertical-bulb-mount parabolic hoods, i would suggest you stay away... the physics of the reflectors are such that you get much more direct light from a horizontally mounted bulb than you do from vertical, unless you hang a bare bulb among your plants, a la Krusty. If you are using the Vertizontal reflectors, or something similar, i would definitely appreciate an honest review. I am right now using a "AdjustAWing Large" hood and it has the best light spread i've encountered thus far, but i am looking into the vertizontal reflectors as they seem to use the same concept, but without any open ends.

Shcrews-i am using a vertical mounted parabolic, and it looks like there is plenty of light spread for the table. I've got some tomatoes ready to get in to my veg cabinet. I will be putting them in to it today. I will add some pictures as soon as I can. thanks for your input!

Update: Been growing under the parabolic for three weeks now, and I think the light spread is terrific for my set up. My tomato plants look great, they're getting pretty tall and my temps are managable. Been getting a bit too cold in the early morning...I've put the hvac in the grow house on a timer which runs from around 11pm to 7am. My lights are off from 7pm to 7am and within this time frame, my temps are dropping to around 55-60. No stress issues as I can see right now. All & all, I'm pretty happy with the parabolic reflector.
