ANOTHER question for Cannacopia
Ive always had some concerns about the DC when used in breeding, but a buddy recently grew out your government mule and I have to say I was mistaken with my original concerns. After only 40 days of cure, she was potent, he had a 100% germ rate and the plants were healthy and strong and performed very well. The plant possessed enough vigor to be grown outdoors.
Im an outdoor grower. I want to run 1 of your strains outdoors this season at 38 degrees n. Frost dates are 4/25- 10/20. Can you recommend one of your strains that should finish and perform well? I just love an indica stupor. Ps. Just a note about seed viability since i have read several reports. In the past month, I have seen 5 packs of your seeds germed, of 3 different varieties. 100% germ on all 5. Last edited by silverback; 01-03-2009 at 09:54 AM.. |

cannacopia seed germination
Silverback. I've read through all of the Canna grows. Two things. Seems that the better growers had good germination results. Also, it seems the C99/DC was in question as far as good germination.
I've got a pack of Lapis Mountain Indica for this years grow. CareFree1's grow looks incredible. I can't wait. What other varieties did you see 100% germ. rate? Thanks & I love to read your threads. Good luck with this years grow. |

Hi NL5
From what Ive seen, the seeds are of premium quality and will pop. All of them. Ive now seen 4 varieties grown and with100% germ rates for all 4, I think its reasonable to believe that viability would exist with all of the crosses. Im not much for politics and am quick to call them like i see them. My comments should be viewed with the understanding that I have not been a DC fan or had much good to say about Cannacopia because of its use of the DC genetics. Im an outdoor seed grower and several years ago i grew 20 dc seeds outdoors and was not pleased with the result. The plant had a growth rate equalled that of watching paint dry and octobers' yeild was pathetic, not to mention the appearance of a few genetic misfits. I have not been a cheerleader for these folks and in fact may have been one of their toughest skeptics and critics. Ill be lucky if they'll even sell me any seeds! After growing outdoors for nearly 40 years you have a tendency to think you know everything. I don't I was wrong about the DC influence in these strains. The GM plants were all healthy and showed decent vigor. No signs of lethargy, no signs of the genetic confusion that I saw in the origninal outdoor DC grow. I agree with your assessment that germ rates are tied to experience. These seeds are fresh and viable and when I read the test grows, i saw why the seeds didn't germ or why the seedling didnt come up. Experience. I cant say diddly squat about strain characteristics or potency, but ive seen enought to believe the reports of poor germ rates are inaccurate and unwarranted. Chimera's results are typical of actual germ rates.. Since I saw the GM grow, I have seen 2 packs of the c99/dc"powerhouse" strain popped, 1 pack of magnum and 2 packs of bubba x dc. All 5 packs had 100% germ across 3 different growers. (None of which use the paper towel method.) Out of 5 packs 3 runts were seen but as with many runts, these were caused by the grower who let tails get too long and refuses to stop his seed soaking. These seeds arent very old and should everyone pop. They are fresh and good: hell, dont take my word for it, look at them. Of the 6 packs in total Ive seen, whoever the bean selector is has done a good job. I know the seeds are good. I dont' just try strains unless i think there may be something exceptional, and Ive seen enough that I want to try at least one these strains. Last edited by silverback; 01-05-2009 at 10:28 AM.. |

I was really hoping, and I bet Cannacopia was too, that we'd have a good diary of each strain so we could see the grow and choose the strain we like. You're a model "tester". Starts the project when you get the beans. Updates REGULARLY(once a week at least). Great photography skills. I'm sure that Cannacopia is very pleased with your test grow. I look forward to your smoke report. Well done! |

NL..yes.. just pokin some fun, at myself, this morning. Thank you for those nice comments and complements..I always thought that a good diary was part of the deal...the vendor sends you some rare seeds and we in return provide a diary of what happens. Regardless of poor results, may I add. I really wish I could up-date mine more often if that is possible..maybe today! DD

DD.
I didn't think you thought I was busting your chops. Do you know anything more in depth about the origins of Cannacopia's strains other than what is in the descriptions? Several months ago I ran across the thread by Canna stating that he was bringing back the Brother's Grimm C99. Four packs he had. I'm thinking great thread-can't wait to read. Whatever went wrong is water under the bridge, but 40 seeds no viability. At the same time WallyDuck says his C99 project was a no go. About the same time, REZ says his C99 project is a no go. Conspiracy? Or, do I have too much time on my hands? Fast forward a couple of weeks and I see Canna offering "testers". Now, my interest was in the C99, but when the first reports came back with poor germination rates I'm thinking is this the same source? Not having any faith in the C99, I bought the Lapis Mt. and have been pleased to see the results unfold. Can't wait to run them outdoors. About the DC in the cross. Is it Tom Hill's or does anyone know? I've seen comments from some of the most respected breeders on IC that they "purchased" Cannas' offerings. That makes me think that the genetics are topshelf. After seeing your diary, Carefree 1's diary, icon's, sleepy's, etc., they look very good. Any input would be great. As Cannacopia hasn't responded to Silverback's questions I'm not sure he's paying attention or I'd ask him myself. Thanks in advance for any help at all. SilverBack and NL5,
I'm on the same train, outdoor grower looking for somthing new and aphgan influened. I've been watching these guys, the Lapis in particular. I asked Icon(and he kindly did)to try tweaking down the hours of his grow to try and get a feel for the plants photosensitivity, unfortunatley he was ran out of time and space before anything happened. I'm at 45n and will try these out, and cross them if nothing else, to Greens GG#3. |
