Thai experiments
Hello ICMag, and welcome to my Thai experiments thread!
This thread will, as best I can, document my findings as I search for unique and special Thai phenotypes. On a small scale though unfortunately... The same will hopefully be done on a much larger scale when I can some day soon, but for now it's more for fun and the love of the beautiful Thai cannabis! OK well, this is were it starts. A big bag o' sees I bought as Hemp seeds for fish bait in a little Japanese/Chinese (not quite sure, I would put my money on Japanese though) run and owned fishing store. Beginning of last summer I put a handfull down in a flower pot to see what "Industrial Hemp Seed" looks like. I was amazed that they flowered at about 5cm tall in summer. This led me to believe they were purely imported and never grown in South Africa before as they were confused with the season differences and were flowering in summer as if under 12/12. Also strange for them to show sex so quickly. I killed males as they sexed and left the females. There were a fair amount of fucktards amongst the litter. I really do mean fucktards, some seriously weird freaks. Here is one in particular: Little weak purple hermie. There was another that started out with brilliant purple leaves and turned into purple pistils and bud leaves. She, well IT had a super rancid skunky rot smell with no Thai sweetness, and kept producing big fat sterile green seeds without any hermie traits. I eventually got fed-up with it's repulsiveness and gave it the axe hahahah. There was some very crystaly ladies and some very pungent tones that made me give some a try and waddya know... Put me on my ass, as only an immature fresh green Thai can. I was stupid and killed the most crystaly ones as they eventually re-vegged by late summer but then decided to keep one of the few that was left and re-vegged. Put her indoors. Here she is: Here's the few that were left for a while. Re-vegging. The nicest looking one with the big leaves was the one above: Bucket o' Thais And one of the others put outside in a bad spot with very little sun, less than an hour per day! She was planted late in the season and wasn't coping with the climate very well it seemed. Now that all that's out of the way, the plan is to grow a bunch of Thai's within my limits and see what I get. Only the truly special pheno's will be kept and hopefully made seeds with for later experimenting/refining. Feel free to comment, ask questions and post pics relating to the subject of Thai cannabis. This is an Indica free zone, just need to give respect to the pure Thai Sativa. Last edited by African herbman; 01-01-2009 at 05:23 PM.. |

This is where I'm at now. Planted a bunch or Thai's and started selecting the better ones, well better ONE atm...
The seeds have a bad germination rate so I have to put large amounts of seeds down on a paper towel and pick out the ones that sprouted. I think the low germ rate is from old age and bad conditions as the seeds were processed like any other grain or seed at a factory. There is a lot of broken seeds and a few pieces of wheat and other contaminants in the same bag. This is what I have so far. Lots of mutants. Only one keeper so far. Here's the better one. A little rough looking but they all seem to start off this way and soon clear up. I think it's a result of damaged seeds. Here are the first lot of mutants. Some are a lost cause and will likely be killed soon as space is an issue, but some look like they might clear up after a while. Like I said, I don't think that most of the mutants are genetically inferior. But rather seem to have trouble early on in germination from damaged seeds as most clear up after a bit of growing. But there is a number which are inferior and will never perform well. Like this freak... No new leaves in the centre, if you look closely you will see. Keeping it as amusement for now haha. Regards, Ah. |

Wats up Dread, and welcome!
That will be interesting to see. I've often wondered about those hemp seeds in bird seed. I heard a story of an old lady here in SA who was arrested for a tree which was clearly visible over her wall. Turns out it was a hemp seed from birdseed she was feeding her birds with that started growing and she didn't know what it was. Unlucky... |

herbman this thread is awesome man. i heard a lot of industrial hemp seed was coated in something to keep them from being able to germinate, so it's cool to see you growin em out!
definitely some hilarious looking seedlings in the bunch. make sure your soil's not too hot for em' cuz hot soil can make em do wierd things early on too, and i see a little brown on the leaves of one. just an observation though. i'll be takin a seat for this one lol peace

Yea, I see that one with the dead leaf. It's quite common with these seeds that one, sometimes both cotelydons die and shrivel up at birth so to speak. Man they grow slow with a dead cotelydon. The ones with both cotelydons dead often don't make it. dread. Haha yea, pretty much I guess. It was poking over her 6ft wall for the cops to see. |

Hey everyone! I decided to take a different approach.
Since I have very limited space now, I got the idea of making a small micro grow/breeding cab. After seeing how well the single 85Watt CFL I gave a buddy works in the same sized area as mine, I will be using one too. The cab is able to hold 33 plants in 500ml soda bottles (well about 400ml after cutting) SOG style, 12/12 from seed. I'm busy testing the cab out to make sure it's running fine. Also having problems with soil but I think I may have it under control. I'll post some pics of the cab soon, and hopefully a bunch of Thai's a little while after. Regards all, Ah. ................. Ok well, it's a little while later. I suppose this should be in the micro grow section but I wanted to show what was being done. Here it is: ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope to show it full of baby thai's soon. Cheers Last edited by African herbman; 01-24-2009 at 12:02 AM.. |
