Well good question... What you need to do is top the plant but don't use the top for the next cutting. Wait till she/he starts to grow and bush out. It may take some extra time with the SB because she is wicked thick and stout! Take one or 2 of the lower branches that start growing after you top the plant initially. That is your best bet to take a cutting from the SB in my opinion. Well at least that's what I did with Bertha. Worked well. I also took a cutting at like 5 days into flower from a lower branch. It took alot longer to root, and is probably a month behind the cut I took while Bertha was vegging. The big ole fat hollow stem would root! But your best bet is to take a smaller more manageable cutting. To do that with this beast is gonna reqire a topping.

the lower foilage arent/isnt ready to be used as clones just yet.
will cutting thru that huge hollow stem have any affect on its ability to take root?

i would hate to top it, and not be able to have the clone survive.

any advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks

thanks berk!

i appreciate the info. and i am with yas on this one. but i dont think i could just "toss" the top that i am cutting off without at the very least trying to clone it.
it is just the hollow stem that has me curious. i usually use small, lower branches. that arent hollow.
we will see.

thanks again for the info fellas

you could just pinch the top to make it bushy...Instead of totally beheading it..will leave more tops to grow that way.. just my thoughts...

When I grew Bertha I didn't top her. I took a lower cutting so as not to mess up the normal look of the plant. I wanted to see what she would do. It's the cutting I have learned is gonna need some extra help in the bushing department.. So I just topped the cutting to make it bush out. Once she grows some more, I'll take a couple more lowers for the next generation Bertha.

Here she is at 45 days flower. And a pic of the cutting I took 5 days into flowering. I don't suggest doing it either. Takes forever to root and even longer to reveg. The picture in the previous post was the cutting taken just before initiating flowering. See the difference? lol

Clearing this can be a challenge as sometimes the seed plants just stay green. I think the rhubarb like leaves can hold a lot of chlorophyll.

Yes a real fat stemmed top can be harder to get to root but I do it easily and I do a little scarification in the form of razor cuts in the base of the cutting is all. The fact is that i do often leave a wisp of the original top to regrow gaining the benefit of a regrown center cola not so large but less likely to mold than untopped.

A lush plant isn't she Berk? BOG
