problems with pics moving or being replaced

I have been discouraged from posting and uploading pics because of problems with their order. I can start a thread and post pics fine, but when I update everything goes to hell. Some pics disappear, some get turned into doubles or triples and everything in my threads get moved around so that the pics don't go with the caption. Is there anything I can do to fix this or is it on someone elses end?

Are you giving every file a unique name?

Thank you all soooooooo much. I've been having this problem for a long time so I just lurk. I will definately give this a try. Is there a way to fix what I already screwed up and would it be best to wait until the gallery problems from the changeover are fixed?

P.S I usually delete all photos from my computer after uploading. Is that going to cause a problem. Sorry for the lack of technical knowledge cause common sense tells me no, but why would I need a unique name on my computer if the file is uploaded already?

I'd wait till the dust settles.

After uploading, feel free to wipe the files from your computer. That's a one time transfer. As a favor to ICMag, you shouldn't upload photos directly as they're too large. Run them through an imaging program (Photoshop, Gimp, GraphicConverter) and reduce them to 800x600 or smaller. Do a "SAVE AS" with a new name.

"DS_1-10-9-Trichs4.jpg" tells me it's a Destroyer diary entry from Jan 10 of this year. The "4" after "trichs" keeps the file from overwriting trich shots 1-3 or 5-9.

You'll want to strip EXIF data as well (info on your camera and possibly you) I do my Save As in ImageReady which strips the info automatically. There are other options I just can't find at the moment ... I'll be back.

..... add ...............

Poke through these and see if there isn't something your system can use.

one tip I would add if you do keep em on your hard drive ever, use the year first, using the date/month/year method groups all photos from the 1st of each month etc rather than in date order.

This is excellent advice.

There has always been a bug in photopost that when an image with an identical name gets uploaded, it overwrites the last one if it's in the same gallery. Many cameras, esp. Sonys all save the files with the same prefix (DSC) and a # following. Try to change that so it's not like other cameras.

Also if you don't care about saving your EXIF, you can often disable the recording of that data in your camera so it doesn't follow your images around the Internet.

And yes, compressing files before uploading is a huge benefit to icmag as it does take a lot of processing power for the icmag server to do it for you, esp. when you can do it yourself, even in batches on your computer.

I've been using Irfanview to resize to 800 x 600. It also strips all info that I can find. I'm no expert though. Giving uniuque names on my computer solved the gallery probs. Thank you everyone.
