Woman accused of trying to sell 'gothic kittens'

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Humane officers said a Pennsylvania woman marketed "gothic kittens" with ear, neck and tail piercings over the Internet. Officers with the SPCA of Luzerne County removed three kittens and a cat from a home outside Wilkes-Barre.

Officer Carol Morrison said the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals raided the home on Wednesday after getting a tip that the woman was selling the pierced kittens on eBay.

"It's unbelievable anybody would do this to kittens," Morrison said.

Charges are likely against the homeowner, whose name was not released.

Morrison said the woman has a pet grooming business in the basement of the home.

conversely i am against animal cruelty and i think its cruel to force a cat to go GOTH when they are really seem to be more EMO to me

My pooch was inked when he was a very young puppy. He never bitches about it. If this isn't a crime in the books (piercing a kitten) and there's no unattended infections than it's nothing more than a overzealous spca employee.

There is a long history of giving cats earrings- look at the ancient Egyptian statuettes of cats. Most have gold hoop earrings and I even remember one that had multiple earrings on each ear. (I've seen folks with similar ear adornment recently.)

This is no different than bobbing a doberman's tail and ears! I see cows everyday with these goodly sized plastic tags attached through their ears. Rabbits (and many other animals are tattooed for ID purposes. No one raises much of a stink about it. This gal is getting busted for the IDEA, not the act! Ahhhh..."thought-crimes"! Deviant thinking! Can't have that!

There was also a similar case years ago, but it involved the death of a goat. Some idiot goths were sacrificing it in a ritual, gold earrings and all. They cut the goat's throat- no different than has been done to slaughter goats for meat for the last few thousands of years, but they got busted. The only real difference in the end was the earrings and the goths were wearing costumes! Can't remember how it came out.

Small injuries heal quickly on cats, so I see this as no worse than an injection from the vet without any health benefits. If the cats were otherwise in good health, where's the beef? I expect that the case will be thrown out- thinking "goth" isn't a crime...yet.

Im still trying to figure out how a private non-profit organization (ASPCA) can "raid" someone's home? It is unacceptable, nevermind unconstitutional, for a private group to be given police powers to raid private homes.

And I agree with the above posters about this being an overzealous employee (aka tree hugger with nothing better to do). People bob tails, clip ears, spay, neuter, inject numerous vaccines, declaw, etc their pets and it is perfectly legal. I see this as just another attempt of special interest groups to use government to intrude into people's personal affairs. This demonstrates a big part of the downfall of the US.
