L.E.D. and vertical combo....
So has anybody ever considered using L.E.D. lighting in a vert setup? Seems like the issue with led's and flouro's is penetration, however, not much penetration is needed for this type of grow. Heat seems to be a big issue, in the tower vert setups especially. LED's emit next to no heat at all, even less than flouro's. If anyone has links to a setup like this, please post thx.

sweet, 100 views and no posts. Well i guess ill have to try this and see how efficient it is. Simple idea really, I just took one of the most efficient methods of growing, and one of the latest methods of lighting, and combined them!

There has been plenty of discussion on it. Also some designs as far as cab, tent and room designs on here somewhere. Not a new topic but something that hasn't really been done fully.
Mainly thinking of an octagon style being stacked 2 high for a total of 16 panels.

Good thread. I've (quietly) been doing my own investigation on this very topic. Doing a vertical SCROG with LEDs was recommended to me last year by a vertical SCROG enthusiast from a medical marijuana community where I hung out for a while. Production output was his point and the low wattage was very appealing. Since then I have been looking into it and have spent some time in the LED forum run by LEDgirl.
And now the snag. According to her (read her posts on this, please) the LEDs require an offset of around 10" and penetration isn't the issue as she gets yields that outperform HID lights on a routine basis. There are a bunch of growers who are testing the lights now but none seem to be testing SCROG -vertical or horizontal - or SOG for that matter. If she is right about having to have the 10" offset (she claims the plants white-out if you get them too close - though this issue is being disputed by at least one grower) then this could lead to problems for vertical SCROG gardeners in some cases I think. It would certainly rule out growing environments that have height-restrictions like cabinets, but would seem to be a true panacea for closet growers (I just put my closet grow away in favor of putting together a stealth cabinet growing program - wouldn't you know) and eliminate their exposure to IR detection by LEO, while some strong growth has been demonstrated. I think this requires some additional work and investigation. Someone has to test it so if you have the room why not try it?

The only reason vertical growing is so efficient is because traditional bulbs have a light output of 360*. leds are focused/ directional, so growing vertically only has the edge as far as floor space is concerned, not gpw.
Just my two cents. |

Yep yep. Your gpw with led will be no different flat or vert buttttt what is sick with vert led Scrog would be a closet 8' tall 4'wide 2 1/2' deep. thats 32square feet in a hella small area.
