I dont know what it is but I know the best sushi comes from ichiban and blue pacific. I also recently made my own sushi rolls. medium grain rice, sushi paper, salmon and cream cheese. it was awesome!

Yeah Uni is the flavor of the ocean for sure, and is an aquired taste. Similar to monk fish liver.
I got to say that the west cost has better sushi we are closer to the islanders and Japanese that created it. I heard somthing about Los Angeles having the highest population of Asians *The Asian-born population is concentrated in a handful of metropolitan areas. Close to half (about 45 percent) of the nation’s Asian-born population lived in 1 of 3 metropolitan areas: Los Angeles, New York or San Francisco. Within the SanFrancisco area, the Asian-born population made up more than half of the foreign born population. * source https://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/cenbr01-3.pdf or more recently 5 million, The Asian population in California, the state that had the largest Asian population (either alone or in combination with one or more other races) on July 1, 2006, as well as the largest numerical increase from 2005 to 2006 (114,000). New York (1.4 million) and Texas (882,000) followed in population. Texas (43,000) and New York (34,000) followed in numerical increase. In Hawaii, Asians made up the highest proportion of the total population (56 percent), with California (14 percent) and New Jersey and Washington (8 percent each) next. Source: Population estimates <https://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/population/010048.html> Counties 1.4 million The number of Asians (alone or in combination with one or more other races) in Los Angeles County, Calif., in 2006, which tops the nation's counties. Santa Clara County, Calif. (home of San Jose) was the runner-up (556,000). Source: Population estimates <https://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/population/010482.html> Now as for sushi my favorite is... well most all of it but I love me some Hamachi (yellowtail), Maugro (tuna), Hirame (Halibut), toro (tuna belly) basically anything. I am adventurious when it comes to food in general. I use to have sushi for lunch or dinner at least once a week for a time there. but that got expensive. ~50$ for just me at lunch was when i said Ok thats a bit extravagant.

Aaahh, yes. Sushi is one of my faves. I live down the street from a very nice sushi place, and on any given night it is VERY easy for me to drop $150 on sushi and sake. Even more if I have someone with me. My favorite is probably eel (no skin please) or octopus.
My favorite part about it is that it can be pretty filling with all the rice, but the sake still hits me quick. Getting full and feeling a buzz is a wonderful thing. |
