it wouldnt have been so bad had you seeded the jalapenos, glad you enjoyed it. the bread bowl was a great touch. now feel free to take that recipe and tweak it to what ever strikes your fancy.

that particular recipe is a scaled down version from the one we made 10 gallon batches of at the culinary school i attended, it was served in the cafeteria as the hot chili. the recipe i make for myself does contain beer and waaaay more kinds of peppers (at least 6 habaneros + 5 more kinds of peppers chopped + my 9 chili powder mix), my chili would have prolly given ureaps kids a phobia of chili and perhaps scarred their palates for life, and made ureap and his wifes next morning agony. But feel free to tweak this recipe to your tastes, explore, expand improve! in a perfect world we could have an ic mag chili cook-off, in a perfect world.

i too am a HUGE chili fan!
one of the few foods i can cook and don't screw up x-cept for seafood. anyway i was craving sum chili today on this cold morning so i went and got the gear before dawn. ive used this same recipe for years, and it is always bomb, and i get lots of compliments on it....its prolly not unlike a lot of chili recipes....heres what i use: -1lb browned burger -1 yellow onion (diced) -1 yellow pepper (diced) -1 green pepper (diced) -16 ozs diced tomatoes -5 or 6 garlic cloves (diced) -16 ozs dark red kidney beans -4 ozs diced green chilis -5 ozs tomatoe paste -seasonings ....mostly crushed red pepper, chili powder, blk pepper, etc... i gave away my crock pots when i moved so ill just simmer it all on the stove for about 6 hrs ....then cheese and sour cream and krakers...and of course save the leftovers in the freezer in individual serving tupperware...yummmmm for you guys that are better chefs than i am...what would u change about that recipe w/out adding more peppers?....i dont like it to be overpowered w/ pepper. |
