[]Design a Vertical System_|_|_|_|

Most vertical systems that use PVC tubes are horizontal tubes, and vertical lights. How bout an all Vert system?

Idea #1) Vertical 3 or 4 inch tubes, Connected at the bottom with Ts with an external Cooler as a Res with an external pump.
Problem: How do I get net cups into the side of the pvc? If I drill simple holes, they;ll fall out. I think that the PVC needs to be bent slightly so that the cups themselves are at a bit of an angle. Dont have torch and PVC wYs are expensive, and dont let you pack in the plants.

Idea #2) 'Under the bed' RM tubs mounded verticaly and plumbed with drippers at the top. Similar to the "growal" system.
Problem: I dont want to use RW. I will if it's the best choice for this type set up, but there HAS to be a better medium for this type set up.

Idea 3) Rack with pots with coco coir.
Problem: Dont want to do this for variuos reasons.

Help me out ppls!! Can anyone solve, or advise in this process?

easy...use those 4 inch into 3 inch wyes..... now build a octogon with the 8th side open and use 6 or 5 ich pipe to 4 inch Ts..then you will have 7 of these...now stack up from the 7 T spots your Wyes.... and buy your self 3 inch net pots.... you can either run misters in side the tubing or run drip stakes to everything plant... and bam...theres a bunch of DIY for this..good luck..

An alternative to consider:

High Density Vertical Grow System

Since I have little in the way of sewing skills, I don't how easy, or difficult, it would be to adapt to DIY. Still, I can see where something similar would have its uses.

Namaste, mess

What if you did #2 with perlite? You may have to seal it real good to prevent leaks, then you wont be able to take the lid off.

Does anyone know how to seal a lid, but still make it removable? Weather stripping wouldnt work, youd need a gasket of somekind.

Bozo! Ya, I though of that style, but I was thinkin more of a vertical tube style.

omenman, I saw your vert setup, dope shit! I dont want to deal with soil/coir anylonger excetpt for the Miracle Fruit that Im growing in peat.

Your vert idea is probly the one Ill use but I also like oneQs perlite idea.

I'd have to buy new perlite evey cycle right? I think at the end of the day haveing as little medium as possible would be the ideal.

I don't quite see the point of this. If you were to rotate your proposed vertical setup ninety degrees then would you not end up with a "normal" horizontal grow?

I don't know about all this vertical stuff in general. it seems to me you end up with light on the leaf undersides which is not good.

I like additional side lighting in a normal horizontal, or better yet would be a scrog which really does seem to maximize exposure.

Hope I didn't misunderstand your idea.

Actually, justanotherbozo has the setup you are describing as his plants are angled towards the vertical lights. After all it is the angle of the plants relative to the light that is significant. The fact that his PVC pipes are running horizontally and not vertically is totally irrelevant to the plant/light orientation - and I'm sure they are easier to feed and water that way. And because his plants are angled, he avoids lighting the leaf undersides as I mentioned in the last post.

Draw some pictures of your ideas. this will help alot.

Explain what you're trying to accomplish and what you're working with (space, lighting, plant count, ect). I can design you any functional and effective system if you simply explain your goals/means.
