My well water SUCKS and I am worried that my last several grows have been affected by it. The ph direct from the tap is around 6.8 which is good for plants but I have to question that whatever is making it slightly acidic could be harming the plants. Recently I've been boiling it before watering but this makes the ph go up off the charts and I find myself putting close to a 1/2 cp of ph down per 5 gallons to adjust it which might be just as harmful for plants. Does anyone know what affect this amount of Ph down could have on plants?

Hey Luci here are my results from store bought test strips-
Free Chloine 0.0 ppm
Total Alkalinity 60 ppm
Total Hardness 50 ppm
Total Nitrate 2.0 ppm
Iron 0.0 ppm
Copper 0.5 ppm
Sulfate 250 ppm
Chloride 500 ppm

My well water runs into a ultra-violet chamber and then into a filter made of cloth -no softners added. What are the proper ppm levels before feeding in a soil medium ? I don't drink the water here but I hope my plants can still live off it!

Your tap-water will work just fine, it looks to me like it’s perfect!! I most defiantly would not boil you tap-water as this could kill your plants in the long run…….just use the tap-water with nothing and you should be just fine………btw all of this was said without knowing what type of grow that your doing, so take that with a grain of salt.

Well water sucks especailly if you have alot of sulfites which it seems your water does. Your PPM of your water are screaming high ~800 ppm before adding anything. Good tap water will be around <200 ppm and around 6.8 pH. Unless I got something wrong here, I would not use that water. Salt buildup and potential lockout seem possible. Any assess to an RO unit?
