Smoke Report - Satori Cut at 62 days - 200w CFL soil scrog.
And yes, that was about 10-15 days too soon to cut the plant - but the soil erupted with bugs and the plants were dying, so it just had to be this way.
However the buds have been curing for a month and have come out surprisingly nice and potent offering more than just the clear buzz you can get from early plants.
As you can expect, the trichs were 90% clear, so this is a report on an early Satori.
Taste/Smell:
Sweet, slightly hashy, quite fruity, not too pungent. Has a hint of menthol when smoked. Very smooth, little expansion. Flavor that remains on the lips tastes very fresh and slightly sharp. And there's a trace of skunk in there. If i leave the jar open it smells like i've been burning a very nice incense stick, but any seasoned smoker will start salivating at the recognizable coffeeshop undertones.
Effects:
Very similar to caffeine.
Very fast acting, energetic, alert, uplifting, thought provoking, semi-motivating stone (motivates you to do something cerebral rather than physical). Good for shaking off fatigue, but maybe a little intense for social use (eyes wide open and a bit scary). Has a good duration and satisfies craving for a smoke for a long time. One or two bowls and I was fine for about 1.5 - 2 hours whereas normally i'm every five minutes.
Over indulgence can induce a slightly panicky, frantic state (and creates a nervous twitch for me). But it's not the overwhelming paranoia that you get with lots of sativas - it's just like having too many espressos and is quite handleable.
The later effects of the stone retain a warm, cosy edge. But nothing like a blueberry or real indica (though I'd expect this to increase if the plant was allowed to finish). It's quite a pleasant come down where you don't really feel burnt out. I can usually count on being completely clear about 3 hours after having a smoke.
The one thing that gets to me most about this weed, is that every time I smoke it I end up playing the guitar! I've no idea how it happens. After a few bowls, when i think it would be a good time to pass out, I start heading to bed and before I know it i'm strumming away! It keeps happening!! And the stone is pretty good for actually playing - allowing you to stay focused and remember what you're doing.
I've read the tag-line that Satori is a good strain for musicians, but consider almost any weed good for guitar so didn't really grow it for this reason. But for me, this is now noted as the perfect guitar weed.
Of course this is a totally subjective review. Your experience may differ etc.
All in all - surprisingly good for something cut too early.
Notes on the grow:
This is the second time i've grown this strain. The first grow (of the mother plant + other satoris) had good results, but this time around I've solved the problem of the buds not drying properly, which has made a huge difference to the smoke.
Mostly organic, bat guano, chicken, and various "organic" nutrients (no names you'd recognize or canna specific nutes).
3 clones grown in small rubbermaid tub in soil (40%perlite) under 6 x 32w CFLs (blue for veg - all red for flower).
Ran into problems including p.h., calcium def., gnats in the soil. My soil wasn't great and air-circulation could have been better. But the plant survived everything, so i'd still say it's a very hardy plant.
Yield - approx. 2oz. Estimated yield if i didn't run into so many problems - easily 4oz. The root systems of two of the plants hadn't developed well at all - there should have been at least 4x more roots. The buds that developed were very solid and they reacted well to the CFLs in general. If I really dialed in my system, then this could be a real heavy yielder - even with CFLs.
Ok - that's it. Thanks to Mike for releasing this strain and keeping the great price.
Grow on ppl.
