A Majority Of Florida Voters Support Legalizing Recreational Marijuana

58% for, 42% against. Lost by 2%.

Or won by 16%. Depends how you look at it. Trying to get a 60% majority on any issue is almost impossible.
It demonstrates, however, that the vast majority of voters, even in Florida, are in favor of decriminalization.

deck was stacked against it from the beginning. florida, the south, billionaire outside investments against it, landslide instead of simple majority vote needed...etc...i thought for sure that national debate with sherrif fife was gonna nail it for us. well. 2 more years. several thousand dead old floridians. we should win on sheer numbers. i wish more teens got out to vote. it's not like this isn't shit that's directly gonna affect them.

The "old" people didn't necessarily hurt us. Many seniors have maladies that can be remedied by cannabis, and many of them voted for it. The problem is with the young demographic. The 20 somethings did not vote as usual. As I've said, I've been going in the street and talking to young "stoners". Most of them were clueless about the election and amendment 2, so if you are looking to place blame, look no further then the young people. They are the ones who don't vote, for unknown reasons. I would like to see the final tally by demographic. Well, of course, that Las vegas hoodlum who financed the "no" movement, using his lying wife as the figurehead of that movement.
By the way, Morgan didn't help in the end, by being caught on video when he was very drunk, wasted, loud and obnoxious shortly before election time.

Funk this state, this place was once a great place to live. The negitive ads worked because the people in this state cant read, write, drive or think for themselves anymore. Flori-DUH is nothing more then a pasture of sheep pretending to be wolves. I am sadly living on a taint surrounded by sour pussy and asshole. But as they say Fl is the closest 3rd world country to the U.S. Guess ill just lower my expectations to 0 from here on out. 2 tears in a bucket Mother Fuck it.....

stupid kids. hopefully it only takes them one election cycle to realize they should vote on important shit like constitutional changes even if they don't care about politics. unlike me who had to vote for 2 election cycles to realize it was a load of shit.

I feel brokenhearted somehow over this loss. 58% supported it, but it wasn't enough.

This means I'll have to keep mailing shit to my sick relatives and putting them at legal risk for at least 2 more years. They should be able to buy whatever they want without having to worry about being busted. It's hard to believe that 42% of the voters chose to keep sick people from getting their medicine.

No, only about 20% of the voters chose to keep sick people from getting their medicine. Voter turn out was less than half of registered voters.

Join the club, especially considering that a Vegas casino mogul who doesn't live in Florida influenced the vote.
I don't care what the issue is....getting 60% of the vote on one side is nearly impossible.
We can thank the young demographic. They are the ones who declined to vote. If they could vote by text, we would have won by a landslide. I-Bots caused us to lose this election. They were too busy playing with their I-phones to bother voting. There's no "app" for that.

I don't think Sheldon Adelson just influenced the vote. He straight up bought the election with the last minute ad campaign. Maybe if John Morgan had been a billionaire he could have financed more ads to get out the vote on our side. 2 or 3 percent is close enough that it could have gone either way.

It's depressing to see how much money can control free elections. I know what I'll be doing in 2016 if I win the lottery.

With 82 percent of precincts reporting and the breakdown unchanged, A.P. is calling the race. Judging from NBC's exit poll numbers, the initiative would have passed if 1) only men had voted, 2) only Democrats had voted, 3) only independents had voted, 4) only blacks had voted, 5) only Latinos had voted, or 6) only people younger than 65 had voted. Given Florida's demographics, that last point was probably the most crucial. Surveys generally find that both experience with marijuana and openness to marijuana reform decline with age. Apparently the medical angle was not enough to win even a majority of retirees, let alone 60 percent. NBC puts support for Amendment 2 in that age group at just 38 percent.
kids these days

Correct. That's the well indoctrinated Repub base- they vote every time, every election, like punching in on the time clock at work.

Slow Progress

I started with a NORML march from FSU to the old state Capitol in 1970. I'm one of the "old people". Long time coming to get a constitutional amendment proposal on the ballot. Persevere, it takes time. Mr. Morgan didn't spend $3mil+ for nothing.

I'd rather vote on treating Cannabis the same as homebrew.

I had hoped it would be different. Pretty much my whole family in Florida is Republican. They all supported legalization for medical use. Most of them support legalization for all adults, like wine or beer.

This should pass next time. Younger generations vote more in presidential election years. The poll numbers for our side get better and better every year.
