Ohio State to legalize pot

:jump:A petition campaign to legalize marijuana use in the state of Ohio by ResponsibleOhio which would create 10 growing sites in the state received a setback Monday when language in the group’s summary of its proposed constitutional amendment was rejected by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.

Mr. DeWine found two flaws in the summary of an earlier version of the amendment proposed by the organization ResponsibleOhio. In general 1) it did not allow for individuals to grow marijuana and 2) questions about tax distribution. The backers announced later that they were starting over with a revised plan that would include a provision allowing individuals to grow up to four plants.

The two defects found by Mr. DeWine are that the summary language omits that the proposed amendment permits the sharing of specified amounts of marijuana between adults 21 years old and older. And the language does not accurately reflect the manner in which proposed taxes would be distributed, according to Mr. DeWine’s office.

ResponsibleOhio spokesman Lydia Bolander said “Responsible Ohio’s goal is to let Ohioans decide this issue, on their own, either this year or next,”

she futher said the petition can easily be updated “We haven’t submitted the second version yet, so it will not be a problem to adapt to the attorney general’s (AG) feedback,” Ms. Bolander said. “It’s not unusual for there to be edits to the summary language.
“By identifying two minor changes to our proposal, the AG has given us specific feedback that we will address. We have officially requested that the attorney general’s office notify us of any unspoken or unwritten issues with the language that he believes need be addressed.
“Responsible Ohio’s goal is to let Ohioans decide this issue, on their own, either this year or next,” she said.

R.O. is the wrong way to go. Their plan sets up a monopoly and requires a Constitutional change. Ohio Rights Group has a much better approach.

I would like to hear more. Thanks for the info. What about the monopoly? That was my concern. Could you post the information, maybe a link to Ohio Rights Group. Now is the time especially since nothing is locked in yet. Thank Morthan

Ohio Rights Group has tons of info @http://www.ohiorightsgroup.org
Also search any Ohio newspaper, especially The Toledo Blade for more
in depth info on Responsible Ohio and other groups trying to get Medical
legalized for starters. ORG has been involved longer than any of the other
groups and has the best approach. The problem is....it's Ohio and there is still
a lot of ignorance and fear.

Responsible Ohio sets up a monopoly of 10 growing sites controlled by a select few rich who only have one thing in mind....MONEY! Their reason for existing is to make the few investors even richer...not help people. Check the facts and you'll see what I mean. The ORG site has numerous articles explaining why RO is wrong.

In that case you should be concerned about Michigan Responsibility Council. They would like to take away Michigan patients and caregivers rights to grow and instead have us all by from their 10 state sanctioned grows.

ORG is half way to gathering enough signatures to get their issue on the ballot. It's all about money and as you probably found out the other groups trying to get issues on the ballot have more money. Even though you're from MI I'm sure you have people you know in Ohio that want to have a future better then groups are now offering. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info to pass along. Same with anyone else interested in progress in Ohio.

Ohio is not scared of Cannabis legalization. It's a money grab and that's what drives everything. Greed and government are our worst enemies.

I'm in CO...
Have a bro n sis in OH.

I would love to see Ohio be "more legal" than CO, if that's possible.

However, from the proposals currently on the table, there seems to be more business interest than Citizen interest.

Plant counts are just plain stupid too.

OHIOANS, modify your Constitution such that the people retain the right to care for themselves.
That document is supposed to protect you from corporations & gubbmint.
DO NOT bolster corporate n gubbmint power with a Constitutional amendment.
Both of those types of organizations exist because the people allow them to.

Thanks MJ for the insight. I think the biggest point you make and I quote you twice; 1) "there seems to be more business interest than Citizen interest." and 2) "OHIOANS, modify your Constitution such that the people retain the right to care for themselves."
Most people have very little understanding of government and what is coming which accounts for lack of education (not stupidity). This should put some metal in the conversation & hopefully show what is good about mid-westerners.

Changing the Constitution is a bad idea. Didn't we learn from the changes made to allow four casinos? I do agree more people need to get on board. I'm behind ORG and their ideas.
Check into it vs the "others" and sign the petition. Tell your friends if you're in Ohio.
