KC Brains Mango

Hello IC Mag.

Just wanted to start a thread documenting these KC Brains Mango seeds. I've always had a lot of interest in this strain and KC Brains genetics. This seed company is one that has been around for years but there isn't a lot of information on the net. The seeds are very inexpensive which is a plus.

I picked up 30 seeds in case of rumored bad germination rates and various phenotypes. I hope to find a keeper that will add a little variety to all of these Kushs I run.

Flowering watts will be 1800 or 2000 depending on what 4x8 tray opens up. The media is 50 percent coco and perlite. I use the shot glass method until I see a slight crack, then I throw them into paper towels.

I bought them from single seed.

I'll update you guys on Mondays or if anything special happens. See ya.

Welcome to IC 40-Mill.
KCB Mango is a sticky-icky frost monster of a strain. Great choice.
Your head will be spinning on which phenos to keep as moms cuz their all so good.

@waveguide: Awesome. Honestly one reason why I choose this strain and bought so many is that I plan on crossing her with a couple of OG's. When I started thinking about this project I ran into a few strains under Mango Kush, so I've also wondered if this is the same Mango. Its one of the older ones so why not? Thanks for stopping by.

@overgrowdaworld: Thank you for the welcome brother. I'm hoping for some nice things! Have you grown her out before?

Subbed always was interested in this strain myself. I grew his nortern lights and it was amazing. 100% germination and high rate of females and weed was extremely dank. This was about 10 years ago.

Im not sure if it was BC Mango or KCBrains Mango. I was gifted a cut. It was super dank and incredibly frosty. I loved it.

@Mikenite69: Thanks for stopping by. How is Northern Lights compared to the strains of today? I can't say that I've tried a well grown sample before.

Well.. Oh, boy. Don't know how to tell you this. Only 3 out of 30 popped. Hey, ten percent aint bad!? lol

The rough game plan is to veg until I can take one clone off of each or possibly 12/12 now then take a clone while its stretching?

I'm hoping for at least one male and one female. If this happens then I'll pollinate the female and hopefully get us some seeds for a second round, that I'll document here.

The seeds were cheap to begin with so it's not a lost. I was just hoping for decent breeding stock.

Ill post an update soon letting you guys know where I'm at.

It looks like not much has changed since some years ago. The germ rate still sucks as always. I just hope KCBrain kept that "big tree" dimension that was typical of his strains and Mango used to have it.

WOW! Single Seed Co must not keep their seed stock in a good storage place.
They must have been very old and not put in a fridge with humidity packs.

Yeah I've had poor germ rates from some of KC's gear as well. Some of it must be really old. Other times I've had great germ rates. I've also had packs with a few immature seeds. It's a crap shoot but his seeds are cheap and the yield is always good. And some of his stuff is awesome I've lucked into some beautiful plants. I also like how it's different than the same strains that are popular right now. Most of his varieties are good outdoors and indoors. If you don't mind buying an extra pack or two it's usually worth the trouble.

I'm glad I found this ..
should my arrive I'll be scarifying those seeds
soak in a glass overnight
then to damp paper towels for 24 hours at 25c/77f
or to Jiffy pucks,
just to ensure they do germ
sounds very old seeds

Probably just the slow down for the holiday season. I've got a package from Cali in limbo somewhere, should make for good post-Christmas cheer :D

let you in on a secret, i'm so fucking tight it seriously moronates me..

bought a bunch of single seeds. first time in years, i never have any money. some of the seeds were from defunct breeders, all of them popped fast, despite being at least 3 years old. so i know the co. stored its seeds well.

except the kc mango.

you see, i'm a fucking idiot. i order a bunch of strains from a single seeds site and, like a douche, i can't even spare to spend $12 on a 10 pack of brains. i have to buy *one* seed. what a douche. too fucking tightwad for my own sense. fuck the stupid world of money.

tell you what i saw -

i used to be a germ specialist for a nursery, no special education but lots of hands on. the kc mango had a pronounced seam, like the seed was built to withstand nature ;)

after a few days i surgeried half the shell off, leaving the embryo on. seed was a nice colour, and still fat. the end of the embryo had a familiar brown circle, lots of seeds that pop do. to me, even though the seed casing was a good colour, this spot on the embryo says the seed may have been harvested a little early. maybe not.

anyway, it rotted on the half shell, despite meticulous care, h202, and a gentle "nute" to try and boost it. i also kept it in the fridge for a week before germ to cold stratify.

seeds go thru a stratification process, not just the scarification of the shell, but various other things may need to happen to trigger the seed. temp, rh, maybe a cycle of the same.

you know, sometimes they need to be frozen first. sometimes they need to soak, dry out, then soak again. i don't know, and i didn't figure this one out.

in conclusion, i saw a probably viable seed that was not indoor bred. it would be great if someone could note a scarification regimen for these seeds, temps, rh, maybe a cycle of the same. i expect with another 10 seeds, i'd still find it challenging to germ with my indoor, impatient expectations, even though i've probably germed more varieties of seeds than most people will ever see.

*edit* i should add that, with 3 decades experience cutting seeds open (i used to xacto models a lot when i started growing, it was natural) i don't think it's a good thing to do.. sure, i've saved some helmet heads, but i've fucked more than i've saved. i strongly advise removing cutting seeds open from anyone's ideas about what to do.

I'll never forget KC's Mango. First seed pack I ever bought. Started one indoors and grew one outdoors. The indoor bud was amazingly tasty. I spent about $1000 on bottled raspberry tea once I realized the amazing flavor combination of the mango herb chased with some raspberry tea, lol.

One female made it to flower. She is very sativa dom. The male is very sativa dom also. She looks to be about 5 weeks into flower very airy buds.

Ill post some pictures in a week or so.
