Some of the younger guys won't know her, but Etta James was one of the greatest blues/jazz singers.
She won a Grammy, and had a tumultuous life, which included heroin addiction.
Her singing was some of the best.
She will be missed.
First time I heard Etta was driving on the interstate....station played I'd Rather Go Blind...tore me up good, was almost sobbing behind the wheel...that lady could reach right into your heart and pull it out.
I went looking for the version that I heard that first time, I can't find it so far, I'm pretty certain it was a recording of a live performance. There are a whole bunch of versions out there, all are great, but that live performance had something extra.
Shit...I'm getting tore up just thinking about when I heard it that first time...
