When I was younger and needed a car when mine was in the shop, I would get a car from Rent a Wreck. A quick Google search revealed they are still around and have many outlets in Florida. I used their service a number of times and most of the cars I rented were in good shape, often better than my own car. They had decent rates in the 70's and 80's, not sure what they are like now. Another option at the very least.
