I'm surprised that there isn't already a discussion about VR.
Me, as an old 'pop rocks' user when high would think its would be a home run with our crew and what we do.. I donno shit about it other than phone/headset,computer.. that's it.. can anyone enlighten me/us? Good ones, bad ones gotta be.. I'm 69, just want to pay and play..

You got that right. Younger generation is into "virtual" friends instead of steadfast real people in their lives.

We stay away from Facebook as it tracks your moves (on phone) or asks if you know so-and-so. No privacy at all. And others (apps)....prefer email and in person. But I'm old, too.

I bought my son a Samsung Gear VR to match his 7 Edge phone for X-Mas.

He got it setup pretty quickly. He's been exploring and letting my wife and I a chance to check it out..

Awesome shit. In the Virtual World or 360 you view the activity as though you were there. In a racing video look to your left and see the driver, see cars you pass and those passing you. On the snowboarding video you are there and can feel the inertia as you look to the right.

Great fun. Just get one made for your phone :party:

This is content: There are lots of 360 Videos for free and others cost. My son says you can watch football games like you are on the field. YouTube has a bunch of stuff. All kinds of sports stuff.

Other content would be applications like games, etc.

Just google "Virual Reality Apps" or "360 Videos " and there should be a lot of stuff

Yeah there's porn available on some sites apparently.

I got a generic vr headset for Christmas, let my little nephew test it out but he must of lost a magnet that goes on the side of the headset because at the beginning it tells you to swipe the magnet to continue.

So i cant really get a feel for the thing until i go to my grandmothers house or wait till im back to work on Wednesday and get a magnet then.

look on the table you or he put it on and look for it stuck to a screw or metal edging.. GD things stick to every thing.. :biggrin:

Oh i know its there alright as my dad picked up what looked like a silver washer, then asked my nan what it had fallen off and she replied never seen it in my life so my dad stuck it on the fireplace.

Good ones are still mega-expensive. The price will drop like a rock. Wait. That Samsung Gear requires at least an s6 phone. Mine's an s5. DOH! But I can wait. Those Instamatic (kid's toys) ones are cheap, but pretty basic and pretty limited. You can't wear glasses on them either.

When i first saw Samsung's vr headset it cost £80 and i wondered why it was so cheap, now i got a cheap generic set i now know why.

It doesn't take batteries and and its basically i plastic box that will hold your phone landscape and a sliding magnet on the side.

My generic headset cost £13.99 and does the same thing

I was supposed to have gotten a free VR viewer with my S7. They were out (imagine that).
What I would like is to be able to go places, different locations and countries.
I use Google Earth Street View a lot.
Maybe soon.

Can you actually do that?

When i downloaded Google cardboard i noticed in the reviews that someone commented that you couldnt
Use the vr headset with Google Street view.
