South Texas siblings plead guilty for their roles in marijuana smuggling venture

LAREDO, Texas – Two South Texas men have admitted they organized the smuggling of approximately 170 kilograms of marijuana from El Cenizo to Laredo, announced U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick.

Roberto Chavarria, 38, pleaded guilty today, while his brother - Daniel Chavarria, 35, entered his plea Dec. 1, 2020. The El Cenizo men admitted to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana.

On May 25, 2017, both helped load large bundles of marijuana into the back of a black pickup truck at Roberto Chavarria’s residence in El Cenizo. The drugs had been previously gathered from the banks of the Rio Grande River. Daniel Chavarria then attempted to escort the drug-laden truck to a stash house in Laredo.

After conducting surveillance, law enforcement attempted to stop the pickup truck for a traffic violation while in route. However, the driver led authorities on a chase and quickly fled the scene.

Authorities found the abandoned vehicle shortly thereafter in the middle of the road with the lights on and still running. They conducted a search and removed five large bundles of marijuana weighing 169.5 kilograms with an estimated street value of $299,200.

Law enforcement were eventually able to identify and locate the brothers and took them into custody.

U.S. District Judge Diana Saldana will impose sentencing at a date still to be determined. At that time, both men face a minimum of five years in federal prison and a possible $5 million maximum fine.

The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation with assistance of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Makens is prosecuting the case.

That happens daily and multiple times every night in my land (more than 600 km south aprox of where the Chavarria surname originated, by the way).
Every night dozens of big SUVs, vans, and even trailers leave at full speed for the big cities of the country, some of them, and others for the French border (the ideal destination is Holland and the U.K.).
These photos of different Spanish police officers are of attempts to move short distances from the countryside to a nearby city, so don't even worry about "camouflage":

^^ That's wild Montuno! I think the bros knew what the sentences were before being caught, that is why they ran. While I disagree with the laws, that is what made their run profitable. Kind of like going to a casino and losing money.

I would call that unprocessed weed in that van. Wouldn't it be easier logistically to dry and trim out in the country, and move finished flower?

Bearing in mind that the photos are of very short journeys, and of outdoor crops, I see two explanations:
1) They are recently stolen crops in the vicinity.
2) They are crops in agricultural fields (olive trees, oranges, pistachios, or mangos, or apple trees ...) without any buildings or not suitable for drying large crops, which are usually from hundreds of meters to several kilometers from the grower's house.

Of course, I recognize that in my land we are very rough and I have already seen people moving plants in 40-liter pots in the back of a moto in a country road in Summer......or move plants by hand in a big city in Winter..:

There has been a drought in the UK this last year. Goes to show how much was coming across from Spain. It must be almost worthless over there

I suppose that with the Brexit there will be a border and customs again, it is not a small impediment...
Of course, by land the shipments to France, Holland and U.K. if they were perfectly dry and vacuum packed. We have seen, for example, trailers loaded with 30 liter cans of paint, in which each can had been manufactured to contain paint in its upper half, and perfectly vacuum packed marijuana in the lower, with U.K. destination. But this is already a thing of organizations.
The individuals who try it by their individual account, limit themselves to load the trunk of their car with packages packaged to the emptiness, and to entrust themselves to the good luck...

It's actually more like 100 for 4 so 25 an ounce and that's not the lowest price the lowest is 200 a pound but most are middle men so 250 to 350 each pound it depends on the greed of the dealer and how many middle men are involved
You get lots of seed of manny different types I kind of hate the extremely seedy ones but it's seeds man so I get Happy again even if the weed runs out faster it's another batch for the Mexican seed collection some Even feel more like indica if I think about it warm euphoria non trippy I don't like those my mind interpretation is that it's weak if it ain't tripping

5 year minimum in federal prison.
Wtf

if you have 100kgs or more of marijuana it is a 5 year mandatory min for the feds. there are only 4 ways to break minimums. take it to trial and win. cooperate. safety valve. or file a motion and get the charge reduced or dismissed. they have a 99% conviction rate because 9 out of 10 take pleas and 1 out of 10 take it to trial and 90% lose trial. if you take a case to trial and lose you get more time. I know of people that got even as much as 6 times as much time because they took a case to trial and lost.

Ya, the federal govt is bullshit. Drug offenses are victimless “crimes”..
The wtf was meant to show outrage at the idea that driving some cannabis a few miles should be paid for with 5 years in a cage

I’ve known more than a few guys who had to do federal bids for drug charges..
They all pled out eventually.
It’s a system designed to break people.
