Bio buckets + undercurrent = living hydro

Hello. I've been gone awhile.
I'm back!

Doing a new hybrid system, bio buckets and undercurrent together. I live in the desert so there isn't enough bacteria in the air to colonize my system. I am experimenting with colonization by hand. I have added ewc tea and companion to start colony of beneficials.

I'm running well water. I haven't added any nutes except silica and calmag. Plants are golden pineapple. Not sure what line of food yet, I have sample of a few. I'm also growing under 2 630w de cmh from growers choice.

Day 6, took off the heads of each plant.
Golden pineapple was bred for sea of green. I top it at least twice. It produces well.

So I noticed a leak in my seal at the res.
I drained the system and sealed it. 24 hour cure and girls are in buckets while we wait.

The one in the cup was taken at same time as the rest.

Kal, you said that you were in the desert. It may be dry, but those microbes are still floating around in the air. Talk to people at local pet stores about how long to let a fish tank acclimate before buying new fish. The properties are the same, and big toke talked about that in his thread on bio buckets. Several of the bacteria are the same. It looks like you already have a great start going. I would have just left my system running for 2-3 weeks to start that bacteria, instead of 1...

Thanks. It colonized well with the tea. It may be in the air here, but it may be in smaller amounts. I ran a system for 4 weeks and ended up getting brown algae.

3 weeks in, happy plants. They have been topped multiple times. They are vegging under t5.
I don't measure ppm or ph because I have no meters. The plants are happy and that works for me.

Looking good kal! Looks like you've topped then a couple times too. I see a few growth tips for each plant. They have a nice green color!
I know you dont have meters, what are you feeding them?

Is there anything physically different between this system and a standard UC design that makes it a hybird of Bio-Bucket and UC, like the addition of bio-filtration?

Or is it the addition of bene's thats the difference?

Peace

The design was similar to the uc. I keep my net pots fully submerged and filled with lava rocks to support microbes, bacteria and enzymes. My rez is set up different too. My return pump goes directly into the chiller and then back to rez, eliminating a second pump.

Do you put your rez in a hole? How do you achieve a waterfall with the return so low?

My waterfall effect is achieved by pump it to the chiller from the return line. The return hose hangs high enough for waterfall.

Reservoir leaked so I built a new design, I love it.
