Game of Thrones...

***I know you're stuck on this thing about the story taking place on another planet, but I'm telling you, if you read *anything* of Anglo-Saxon/Norman history, you'll know that EVERYTHING is modeled on that. Everything. Just look at Westeros and its relation to... aw shit, what's the continent with the desert and Qarth called? Anyway, Westeros looks pretty much just like England. Hell, the Wall could be Hadrian's wall, the Wildlings are the Scots and Irish/Celtic tribes. The symbolism is pretty much the same, the terms, the etiquette, and that battle scene, oh my God, just as the stories I've read describes Dark Ages and Medieval battles.

From the taking of royal hostages to the arranged marriages to the terminology, it all mirrors what's already happened.

That's why his stories don't mirror the typical mythical journey that comprises most great stories (i.e. the hero's journey, Joseph Campbell-stylee), but instead is rather like real life. I mean, is there going to be a Battle of Hastings? Sure could be! And King Harold will be portioned out into pieces and his remains lost forever.

Excalibur! I fucking *love* that movie. They should have made it into a series, too.

***EDIT*** I meant to quote Dave.

I can't help but think of Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd whenever I see midgets...little people, whatever...

If they have on clown make-up, I'm outta here :Bolt:

watched first season, loved it.
read all the boosk. fucking awesome. loved it even more.

but now i just lost all interest in season two after reading the books. watched the first cpl of episodes but it couldnt really keep me interested anymore.

i want book 6!!!

btw its itching in my finger right now to drop some apocalyptic spoilers on yall. get revenge for all the assholes who spoilered major shows and movies for me.

but ill be a good boy and not do that ... *cough
RED WEDDING *cough cough*

PS that gay scene between loras and whats-his-name ...
i didnt even pick that up in the books. there were only RUMOURS about loras and whats-his-name doing the dirty but it was never that in your face. thats was the point i lost interest in the show because up to that point i had the feeling its pretty much 1:1. but that really took me out of the experience. not because they show some gay luving, they do that in alot of hbo shows. but that they would put a scene into it just to get a reaction out of ppl, really in-four-face kinda style ... that put me off of the show.

anyways im kinda jealous for al the guys who havent read the books yet and dont know whats coming.

You will be SHITTING BRICKS when season 3 comes around!
wish i could erase that part of my brain and experience it again.

So, you were cool with the incest that produced a child, but the gay butt sex was too much for ya?

Children. LOL! BTW, I love Shae more and more with each episode. No, it has nothing to do with her porn career (maybe a little  ) but her facial expressions are so emotive.

i dont mind gay butt sex (tho im not a big fan admittedly), i do mind them putting it in there just for the lulz. it killed the holy-shit-im-watching-my-favourite-books-as-a-tv-show experience bc that scene never happened in the books.

TV doesn't do subtle.
So, who's got guesses for how the story might go...
I'm going throw this out there---Jon Snow will end up marrying Daenarys.
Another really good show a couple of years back was "The pillars of the Earth"

although GRRM is known to be a fairly liberal minded fellow, and seeing how the producers run everything through him, i think the motivation for Renly's scenes is the necessary component of humanization of the characters when bringing a story to film, as it relates to the audience, and not trying to make a political statement.

EDIT: Phew! I almost posted a spoiler. But yeah, that would be weird. Ned never got the chance to tell him who he really was. Wrap your head around this: Jon Snow IS the song of ice & fire. Shishaaaaaa!

I've got a bit of info that leads me to believe what I suggest could be a distinct possibility.
"The targaryens have married brother and sister for generations to keep the bloodlines pure" I know what your saying.
I haven't read the books.

Yessir. I haven't read the books either although I did just pick up A Storm Of Swords for my trip. Unfortunately, I did read a little too far into the Wiki of Ice & Fire. LOL! I learned a couple of things that have BLOWN MY MIND.

Very hard to keep it, like when your friends and family are saying "Oh it will all turn for ok for (insert character) in the end" And I'm thinking-don't count on it.
Some shockers coming for sure.

I've been catching many of the characters in other movies, most recently the Wildling, Osha, in a very surreal sci-fi flick called Womb. I've seen the fellow who plays Tyrion Lannister in several movies, one of the better of which was The Station Master. It makes sense that a character like Shae might have demonstrated her abilities elsewhere. ;) Hers is another character I like a lot, though I'm still partial to Arya.

Ah, I get that, totally. It's rare for movies to mirror books exactly, I think. One of the few is Sometimes A Great Notion.

I've read the book and enjoyed it immensely. So much so that it can be attributed for getting me on this historical fiction kick that has me practically trapped by English history. I've tried reading other fictions based on different histories, but this keeps dragging me back as most fascinating and entertaining.

This whole thing with the Wildling girl. You saw how they reacted when she told them who Snow really was.

Aria is a fave for sure! Did you see the video I posted? As to the Wildlings, maybe their leader (A former "Crow') knows Jon Snow's real parents? Maybe. I'll start A Storm of Swords sometime tomorrow, hopefully it'll tell me what I NEED to know. :)

It pains me too that I have to wait for season 3. I usually wait until the entire series is complete, then watch 5 - 8 years of episodes in a few action packed months. This time, I made the mistake of watching it with everyone else. Oh the pain...!

i read all the books as they were published and the show is truly great, but i dont know how you could watch it without reading the novels. i call the show "fast forward of thrones" because a 5 minute scene encompasses an hour of detail in the books. strange to see things in the shows background, all done in exquisite detail, never explained in the show.

i like to listen to audiobooks while i work, and the ones for this series are truly amazing. roy dotrice got a guiness record for his work on the audiobook. if you are into the show, but dont have time to read em all...or if you have read them and want to get a "close read" i recommend it.

I have only read the books as well, cant really seem to find the series as interesting.
Though the last book that came out not too long ago was kind of dull, I think.

Just too bad I have to wait, like forever, to get the next book..
