Must...catch...Heath... 7200 watts of VERT

It all started back over a year ago when I stumbled on to Heath's flooded vertical tube. Started reading the thread and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Being new to growing at the time I wondered if results like Heath's were possible to duplicate or even... beat?

I jumped in head first with a good buddy and we went from 0 to 60 (more like 1000). No growing experience. No equipment. No idea how to proceed. Just Heath's thread.

The last year has been full of builds, tear downs, runs of varying success... Blood Sweat and Tears in short.

We have made many modifications (not sure if one can use the term improvement when discussing Heath's designs?) and gone through several variations of his original design. Finally decided that the original can't be beat and decided to give it everything I have got.

This thread will track my quest to catch Heath... New house with 6 separate flooded verticals each running 1200 watts.

I hesitate to post pics after reading Agent Smith's posts. I thought my game was tight until I watched this guy. Beautiful work. Now I feel like all of my stuff is a bit embarrassing, but oh well. Here is a little appetizer of the new veg room. Lots more pics to come.

picture.php

Veg room with two separate NFT tables. The left table is for mothers and uses 6" pipe while the table on the right will be a short (3-7 days) veg table for the ladies to go before they are moved to flower.

picture.php

Shot of the table with a few ladies in them. All of these will be turned in to mothers. The table holds 160 and I would say there are bit more than 100 at the moment.

picture.php

A little root porn. This is only 3 days out of the cloners... The growth with these NFT systems is outrageous.

Everything I have done is based on Heath's original designs and theory. I am sure he could squeeze 1gpw out of a thimble and band aid, but us mere mortals have work to do.

Im comin' for ya Heath. Here we go... :smokey:

Happy I am the first to be tagged into this. Plants look healthy as hell, so your definitely doing something right! really been thinking about going to hydro route soon, real tired of having to ditch the coco and keep going out to by more.. keep it green bro.

You are too kind Joesy, but I still have tons of work to do before I am on Agent Smith's level. I WILL get there some day though.

As for the watts for mothers though, it is pretty well necessary. When I first started running these systems I tried taking cuts from the system itself to supply clones for the next run. This quickly proved futile.

The optimal size for the ladies is between 6-8 inches for the vert system. No cuts are available when they are this size. If I waited any longer to put them in the system things get out of control and there is too much crowding. There are 115 plants in this system so you can imagine. We tried taking cuts a few weeks in to flower, but our strains don't like that. The cuts taken from weeks in to flower root at a much lower rate and have altered (for the worse) structures (think re-veg).

When running 6 of these systems I will need 690 rooted clones to run them so that means closer to 1000 cuts need to be taken in order to pick the best. Long story short, gotta have mothers.

That being said I will eventually be changing my mother setup to conserve light. Once the mothers get big enough and I can start getting 50+ nice cuts per, I can reduce the numbers/space/light they take up.

As to the people saying Heath can't be caught for whatever reason. You might be right, but you might be wrong... Hopefully for me its the latter :).

:lurk: Cool username first off!

Your on the right track to making your own name with this one homie, Heaths a legend all the same don't get me twisted :) I'm growing some of his beans at the minute (V3 strain 5 weeks into bloom).

So your running his vert pipes with 2 lights, I think he initially ran it with 1 x 600w and 84 or so site IIRC. I also remember him mentioning adding another light and level. Are they running all at once or 3 for 12 hrs then other three come on? How are you cooling them? How big is your res for each system?

Your clone game is tight! I love NFT one of my favorite methods of growing only beaten by coco for ease. Shit gets big hella fast in NFT.

'Preciate the love.

Yea I am running his vert pipes except they are 5 levels and run two lights. There are 4 systems in one room and 2 systems in the other room. They run at separate times.

As far as cooling I have a fan at the bottom of the system pointing straight up. Right now house temps are low to to winter, but in a few months I will be running at 2 ton window ac unit (already installed). Temps range from 72-75.

Each system has a 45 gallon res with an additional 25 gallons of water circulating in the system itself.

Will be posting pics of the systems soon...

Genetics genetics genetics...

In the last year I have ran lots of stuff...
PCK, Mango PCK, OG Kush, OG Haze, Chunky Cheese...
Popped a bunch more seeds, but ended up having to dump all of them. That, however, is a different story for a different time...

Right now I am running

Dirty Larry: Gotta give my friend props for creating this girl. Its Space Queen x Lemon Larry Kush x Urkle. There are a few different phenos of this.

Chem Cheese: Have a few phenos, but I love this stuff. Smells of straight stinky cheese and is frosty as hell.

Medicine Man: I am thinking of ditching this as it turned out to be a failure. Out of 6 phenos only one is looking like it MIGHT work.

AK99: Still figuring this one out. Stacks nugs like nothing else I have seen, but this bitch is wild. Requires lots of training.

Wifi: Havn't ran much of it yet so I am still trying to get it going.

Snow Dawg: Same as above. From what I can see now I will likely only be keeping one or two phenos.

Just popped these about 3-4 weeks ago. They are a mix of Wifi, Guava 13, Wifi, Grape Stomper. In the past we would pop the seeds in starter soil in plastic cups and then transplant them to the EZ cloner after 3-4 weeks. This time around I popped the seeds the same way, but transplanted them to soil. I will be taking cuts of them to run through the system as I don't like running stuff straight from seed.

All of the ladies...

Wifi...

Guava 13...

I am sure you guys are thinking I am crazy for running all of these different genetics. DHF is probably having a heart attack because im not monocroppin' yet. Truth is I am running all of this at once to find my winning phenos quicker. Once I find the keepers I will get rid of the rest and run full systems with 1 phenotype. Hopefully this happens sooner than later... :smoker:

I would take that AK99 and fill up a room with it, and then test all of your other genetics in another room on a smaller scale... Just sayin.
