OG Kush, and Trainwreck. Drain to waste coco with House & Garden Nutes

Yo Flying High, Don't feel SO bad dude. Although I agree with Oregonic lets not make this a put down.:pointlaug

I welcome you both to IC! Now play nice....:friends:

On another note, hows it going Mo Budz?? Bet shit is huuuge now! Also I wanted to ask, I see H & G calls for shooting powder 3 weeks before harvest.....I imagine your not using in your last week because of flushing...Would you start in week four?? Maybe just week 5 and 6? I usually only use it week six myself.....only thing I ever noticed it did was apply more resin to the latest forming calyx, but did not ever think it made the buds esplode with new growth....I'd like to hear your input, thanks.

Another Q, do you use the multizyme and algen extract?? I do, in gallons, but sometimes they leave spots or moss starts growing in the gallons that hold those additives. YES they are under a small T-5 light, and I suppose that could encourage growth. But I was just wondering about those two things in your resiviors, do they create more build up than the other H & G nutrients? Thanks again! PEACE

Week 7 and 8 (day 53 of flower)

Thanks Mo
THis thread has been really thought provoking-- please keep us updated, I can't wait to see how this turns out!
One question about your nute regiment: you mentioned earlier that you fill your rez half up with RO water for the last few days of each week.. do you do this as a means of flushing? Is the remainder of this solution that is left in your rez what is accounting for the initial ppm amounts that are noted in each weeks fill up regiment? thanks in advance for clarification and good luck with the finish!
all the best
Max

Thanks Max. I usually only add just enough water to get me through the rest of the week if I run short. I'm sure it has some kind of flushing effect since the nutes are much weaker but I really like the rez to be down to the last inch or so as I do not ever empty it. Just wait untill its drained down, top it off, and remix nutes.

Mo, top notch set up and program. Plants look so healthy and happy. I have no ?'s just praise. Thank you for posting your set up and your pics are HT worthy, if not better. Any updates on the GDP experiment?

Thanks Rich. I accidentally let the roots run dry, and ended up shitcanning that little experiment for now. Been too busy lately, and I'm kind of bummed I didn't finish it because they were lookin real nice and healthy for the aero garden.

Greets Mo, hope all is well, looking forward to some pics of the final week...

Oregonic

Thanks Oregonic. Everything is lookin just as I had hoped for, and I'm really exicted to see what these wrecks yeild this time. I ran 4 of them about 6 months ago, and ended up with a little over 9oz's and these are lookin close to how those 4 looked.

Thanks for pointing out the painfully obvious. I'm a little embarrassed. Especially since I read the thread and still glazed over that response.

After looking over the thread again, would you recommend the Boss Blocks for a first Coco grow?

Sorry again for asking a dumb question.

Thanks for the q FH. I really liked the boss cubes at first, but ran into some issues with a few being only the root mat stuff in them, and plus they can be a pain in the ass to hydrate. For me the loose coco seems to be a little less work, and a little cheaper too.

Thanks again cali. For the first Q. I use the Shooting Powder for weeks 5, 6, and 7. For week 8 I just flush with plain R.O. I'm not sure if you have grown wreck before, but I can atest to the yeild increases over any other bloom enhancers I have used in the past. Mind these plants only vegged 10 or 12 days under fluorescents, and I have hit over 2oz per plant on some. I have never been able to get yeilds like that on the trainwreck using any other food in the past along with the short veg and 2 gallon bags for flower.

I do use the multizyme, but no algen extract. I worried the AE might cause issues in my rez, but the multizyme has never caused me any problems. The Multienzyme, and BudXL are both enzyme products, one designed for early flower, and the other designed for late flower. I also use drip clean every mix, so that does help some with any buildup.

Thanks again everyone, and here are some pics at day 53 of flower. A little late, and will have some more pics soon.

shiiiit son! Thanks for the info, I have used a few tips from your thread already! I really listened to that one about raising the PH later in flower because plants absorb more phosphorus right?? Sounded like a good tip to me. So in week five are you lowering your A and B??? I used it only in six, and I would lower the bases. I am going to try to use it more often now though.

That nightshade is amazing, how does she smell, could you compare her to urkle?? Gorgeous looking trainwreck too, you got her to yield wonderfully it seems! And I bet the smell is out of this world!!! Great job bro, great job!

hey Mo great grow!

quick question though... how do you regulate the flow to the irrigation baskets? did you just turn the pump up all the way so that waters shooting out of all of them? i know they're not pressure regulating and i had problems with different baskets flowing different rates of water. so by the time the slowest basket had runoff the rest were already giving runoff for a while. thanks for the response!

Thanks unta. I love the wreck, but have had mixed results with it in the past. Especially growing it in soil. Its a little harder to root then most varieties and the weak branches can be a pain in the ass too. But its so easy to trim and can produce very well with proper techniques.

Thanks eddie. I think the stuff is definentally worth giving a run. Works great in all hydro applications, and pretty easy to use too. I really like the fact that I do not use more then a 3 or 4 thing in my rez at once.

Thanks cali, I'm not too sure about the science around upping the pH, but it makes more sense to me to do so when the plants require more. I start to lower my A&B at week 5 when I add the shooting powder, and continue to lower it untill week 7. Week 7 will usually get a very low dose of A&B and sometimes I will leave it out all together depending on the strain, and how green they still are by then.

The night shade has a completly different smell and taste to it compared to any of the other purples. I has a skunky fruit punch kind of smell and taste, kind of like hawaiian punch but the smoke smells like almost like an incence. It would almost be hard to tell the difference if you walked into a room of the smoke.

Hey eman, thanks for the reply. I only run a max of 40 using a 1056gph pump with no restriction on the flow. They all seem to presurize just fine, and if I were using any more drippers I would probably have to step up the pump a little to make sure they all flow the same. I think the big thing is that the 3/4" pvc gets pressurized pretty quickly with that pump, so once that happens they all get very similar ammounts of food. I just try to time my feedings so I use my rez in one week so the runoff is very minimal.

Thanks djxx. I like taking the pictures in the dark with the flash on. Really brings out the colors of the strains.

I think you will get better yeilds running the 81 placed 9x9. They always say yeild comes in numbers, but the main thing to take in consideration is plant spacing and pruning. As long as you are flowering in no more then a 4.5' x 4.5' space per light, you can get some awsome yeilds off those numbers. When I grow any of the purps varieties I can usually get close to 1.5oz per plant running 20 per 1k light. With the coco, unless you are vegging for a longer period, the 2 gals are plenty of medium to grow in for a short cycle crop.

very nice thread and grow. helped me confirm a few beliefs and i thank you! i will be making some changes in my future!

Thanks sir. I'm glad I could give some assistance. Just trying to show how simple things can be in coco, and the dtw is by far the lowest maintenance imo by far. Good luck in your future grows.

Here was my week 7 feed chart. Forgot to post it in my previous reply. This was the last feeding and for week 8 just topped it of with plain RO water. Thanks again every1.

WOW Mo,

What can I say that has not already been said? You have created quite an efficient setup there. I can really appreciate the craftsmanship.

I'm actually moving from a vertical setup (too much maintenance for a larger grow) back to a flat garden and have been thinking about giving coco a shot.

First question, do you happen to notice a lot of salt initially in the coco mixtures? does it require a great deal of treatment before hand, other than a good rinse with tap water?

Also, I know that it drains quickly and doesnt hold too much water.. but I was planning on running about a 70/30 coco/pearlite mixture, and feeding by hand once a day. Do you think that regulating the amount of water to each plant is crucial in coco, or will a good mixture of pearlite in the mix allow for watering "by the eye".

I'm gonna be running 4x600s and about 20 GDP per light in 6.5x6.5x7 pots, hand watering every day. The reason i wanted to hand water, is that I dont want a build a system before coco has me totally sold. (long time rockwool and hydroton user)

Lastly, I am totally with you about the H&G nutes.. I have used Canna, Advanced, GH, and mixtures of others, and HG really is the most complete, effective nute line I have found. It tripped me out at first how low the PH dropped when mixing in the A+B I thought I had done something terribly wrong LOL.

Keep up the good work my friend, you really do have your system dialed in nicely, and thank you for sharing so much information with everyone.

Peace,

FLo

i hear good things about HG, thinking about switching from general hydro and this thread has me SOLD....

FLOJO^ if you were using rockwool/hydroton you can still use your same system on coco, just run it less frequently.

Ya, I know I could still use it, but right now I have a crazy vert setup, which is a bitch to maintain, which is why I am going back to a flat garden... and I dont wanna build a new system, or buy any new equip till I figure out exactly what I want to do..

And yea, HG is the SHIT, it performs leaps and bounds beyond anything GH will do.. it is so much cleaner, no salt build ups, and produces some of the best looking plants I have ever seen..

Yo Mo you're probably busy harvesting but I got one last question for ya bro if you don't mind. I know you mentioned you're vegging with CNS17 now but I'm wondering if you ever vegged with the H&G, and if so if you remember what you're feeding schedule was like? Namely, how much of the A+B you were givin em versus the Algen Extract? I'm also just wondering if there is a reasoning behind not vegging with the H&G other than the ease of use and price of a one-part versus a four- or five-part? I like the idea of having them on the same nutrient line the whole time so I don't mind the extra pain and $ of mixing up a batch of H&G. And come to think of it, I'd assume you're giving yours the Roots Excel along with the CNS17 anyway...

Hope all is well man and thanks for your responses as always.
