Food color your Cannabis (Rainbow Weed)

Hello fellow ICMag friends!

I wanted to share my findings from last years curiosities;
Coloring my cannabisšŸŒˆ

The first attempt was taking a small flower and letting the stem sit in a food color and water mixture of a single color. The flower took up some color but it was rather poorly shown.

I attempted a second time, but scratched the stem to expose the tissue under the rougher ā€œbarkā€ or ā€œhullā€. This time the colors were much more vibrant!

The smoking of the colored herb was terrible!!! I used no nutrients on my plants, just good old water, so the flavors were unparalleled. Unfortunately the coloring seemed to have ā€œclogged upā€ the breathability of the smoke, creating a black ash. Not to mention, who knows what dyes convert to when Iā€™m smoking them!

Visually appealing but I wouldnā€™t recommend it for smoking. Iā€™m inspired to take some white flowers from variegated cannabis and do a ā€˜Rainbow Roseā€™ coloring.:peacock:

Interesting little experiment. I could totally see some idiot get the wrong idea though and try to use this as a means to up bag appeal.

Food dyes are toxic when consumed.
there is no point in doing this, this plant already has extraordinary colors naturally.

Some food dyes are cancer causing agents and that crap should never be considered safe for consumption!

Why not breed a colorful strain. I used to grow a reefermans sour d that had red, orange, purple, green and every shade in between.

Same goes for the people flavoring weed and extracts. Just stop. Grow a yummy strain or buy weed from a grower that does.

Here you go, colored cannabis. Grown organically in it's natural state. Cannabis plants have all the colors already there. Grow up and throw away the poison, learn how to grow.

Hey all!
I totally agree with NOT using it for consumption.

I was just curious about it after seeing flowers on a table in a restaurant, and thought Iā€™d give it a try with a few bottom buds and share my findings. It was a fun art project :)

Iā€™m all about breeding colorful cannabis with no additives! Thanks everyone for your input :D

Cut a glow stick in half and try soaking that up. Glow in the dark bud! Would be a cool display in a shop but you know someone would try to buy it

What you're doing seems like a harmless and possibly even attractive arts & crafts project to me, so just disregard all that nattering nabobs of negativity that showed up. Their irrepressible monkey genetics forces them to try to act big and put on threatening displays when they're confronted with any confusing new or unusual ideas.
Smoking the dyed stuff yourself and warning everyone else not to was a nice touch.

I guess natural dyes can be employed, but really it's a tight, niche market.

If you told me the buds you have are dyed, I would not use it,
even if you were giving it away.

What the hell is wrong with you anyway.
