Does the flicker of HID lamps effect Epileptics?

Hi friends, i have a buddy who is looking to grow, and i know he suffers from epilepsy and has to take a pill everyday to stop himself from having seizures. Will the flicker of HPS & MH lamps cause seizures do you think. You could imagine the serious potential damage that could be done if someone goes into seizures in a growroom, one could literally die. My only thought was always wear dark sunglasses when in there but if there's any ppl up in here that suffer from epilepsy pls post in here or private msg me if you feel more comfortable doing that

I use glasses and short visits to the grow area. I also have issues with light flickerings and found the yellow shooting glasses work best for me. been seizure free for 5 years with good meds and keeping track of my surroundings

Hey UrbanFog thanks heaps for stopping by brother. Thanks for your input, i will definitely look into some yellow shooting glasses, and congrats on going 5 years

When you say good meds do you find that using weed on a regular basis helps with keeping seizures at bay, or do you mean the pharmaceutical meds like Epilum?

Only know one person with this condition , dodgy old florescents apparently had the potential to bring on a fit , but he has a reef aquarium with halides now and takes no special precautions.

He takes two prescription drugs to good effect , hopeing to get his driveing license back soon.

Neurological problems including photosensitive epilepsy. Even short exposures of visible modulation in the 3 to 70 Hz range may cause seizures in sensitive people. This affects approximately 1 in 4000 individuals aged 5 to 24. Onset usually begins around puberty, and 75% of these individuals remain sensitive for life. (Fisher et al, 2005)

well actually both, found phenytoin works best for my "pharmicutical " choice, went 4 years taking it and then had a pretty bad seizure, bit through tongue grand mal type. Took awhile to find a med that helped without making me feel zoombie like, phenytoin was it. AFter that I began looking back into cannabis as I had quit smoking to gain custody of my daughter. Now I use my phenytoin and MMJ and have been seizure free over 5 years.

Yeah see my buddy had his 1st seizure when he was about 19, and it was set off by playing a Doom style video game with flickering screen.

So that 3 - 70 hz range is that the range that HPS & MH lamps operate in?

my girlfriend has myoclonic epilepsy and helps me grow. she's never had a problem in the grow room before, but there are a few kinds of epilepsy each has a different trigger
