Hey everyone :tiphat:
This thread will be dedicated to little forum tricks, or tips to increase your productivity when researching.
I'm one who likes to use a great software like Vbulletin to it's maximum. Vbulletin is the software (maybe the wrong word?) that this forum is run on and is quite advanced. There are many tricks that allow you to browse quicker.

How to Enable 40 posts per page viewing:

Was doin my typical stumblin around old ICmag threads lookin for new information, and new ways to improve my grow..
Well from an old 2008 thread by Blazeoneup someone mentioned that you can change your "Post count per page" from the forum default to 40 posts per page.

Instead of constantly scrolling, clicking to the next page, waiting for it to load, then continuning my research I can now just scroll n read :dance013:

It's SOO much faster, and now I don't have to click shit when I'm researching..

Just thought this would help some of you guys new to ICmag with some increased effeciency..

Heres a little tutorial I made to show you how to do it
biggrin.gif

Step 1:
Click on MY IC - It's in the upper left. If you don't use this, it's very beneficial for research and looking up old posts/rep.

Step 2:
Look on the left navigation bar and click on the option that says "Edit Options"

Step 3:
Scroll down to the Thread Display Options and change the "Number of posts to show per day" from Forum default to 40

How to Filter a Users Posts - Only shows one persons posts in an entire thread

1) Click on the persons ID/Handle that you are wanting to look at in the given thread.
2) Click Filter Posts

It's as simple as that and saves alot of time!

This tip is useful if you are looking at someones grow journal. Some threads on here are HUGE (40+ pages) and to be honest I'm often times only interested in what the grower has to say about their grow :dance013:

Using Google to Get Better Search Results
- I hate the ICmag search option, especially when not searching by title it just returns a bunch of random crap that is not related to what I'm searching for. ICmag also has a filter on common or short words which makes it incredibly annoying to search acronyms or small words like PH.
My solution: Google Site Search!

1) Go to Google Site Search by clicking below link:
Google Site Search
2) Type ICmag.com/ic into the website query bar
3) Type your search into the query box and click search
4) Enjoy MUCH better results :tiphat:

Heres the difference between ICmag and google..

I hope this helps and gives you some increased effeciency/less time wasted on IC (but is really time wasted on IC? :cathug:)
Thread will be updated when more tips are found/I think of what I use on a daily basis :D

No problem!
I updated the thread to include more tips..
If a mod could change the title to "Increasing Effeciency on ICMAG - Tips and Tricks" it would be greatly appreciated :D
I can't do it..
I made a new thread and wanted this one deleted but I think a mod said "no no" to that so I'm find with keeping this one here :D

I hope this can help!

That's great thanks.
Here's how to make firefox faster.

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

Never use Search to find things. Use Advanced Search by Titles Only in the Search drop window instead.

Example: Search muffler and you'll get dozens of pages of threads with thousands of posts that have nothing to do with mufflers, it's just a word that came up. AS/TO muffler and you'll get 1/2 page of threads with ALL posts speaking of mufflers directly.

I've tried this and with my internet connection I don't notice much difference in actual load times. It just loads differently.
I'm also on a SHIT connection because of my location..

I'm sure it'll help some people though :D

I do this sometimes but for a more enhanced better search I use google.

Someone may start a thread named "Mandala Genetics - The best for the price?" and it has tons of valuable info about their strains
but someone searching specifically for "hashberry" will not get that in their results..
With google it enables a good search that ranks the "values" of a post.
Title gets the most value, then it scans content and sees what relates to what.
If people are talking alot about hashberry in that mandala thread that is what will come up.

They both provide good results, but I find that the Google Site Search provides the best results.

If using FireFox or Chrome just get auto pager and it will load the next page for you

AutoPager automatically loads next pages when you reach the end of a page. It works on a ton of sites,Google,Yahoo, ICmag..
It works well with most other add-ons adblock plus, WOT and most of the greasemonkey scripts.
You can also try AutoPagerLite.

I agree. I think the default search should be the advanced search. It would save a lot of time. The basic search now is pretty useless.

On drama filled threads, repeatedly hitting the F5 key will keep you on top of your game if you want to get the latest e-rage, hulkin', troll content before it's deleted.

I've referred to it as F5'ing before.

"Yo did you see that F5 thread on ic today?"

"What you doin' bro?" "Not much man F5'ing this thread on ic"
