can clones grow relatively significantly before they put out roots, or is it only possible with roots?

no, new shoots and leaves are in straight ratio with roots-->transpiration and nutrientuptake

one of them had roots and I was able to plant it in a larger starter pot, the other one pulled out but had white nubs so I packed it back in the soil and wet it with some fresh water, I had to trim some leaves so the dome wouldn't be pressing against them

so I officially rooted my first clone, aloe gel and straight into soil, the new growth was happening within a week
