Off grid grow

I cut the widow down a couple days later. The widow buds are super dense and coated in tricombs. Under the scope 5% amber 70% cloudy and 25% clear. I think this plant may have finished a couple weeks before the other widow because of the same amount of nutrients were going into half the grow medium. This widow is only in 2 gallons of soil, and its finished enough for me at 47 days. Yeilded 4oz after 4 days on the dry rack. The smell is very fruity some say watermelon. Its 80% indica 20% sativa and its a relaxing body high and it tastes delicious, so smooth. The top cola was 8.5 oz wet after trim, about 2 oz dry.

Next to go at day 49 is the Hash plant. This plant must still have lots of nitrogen because the tricombs are 20% amber 75% cloudy and the leaves are dark green. Not done drying but based on wet weight of trimmed bud i usually get 25% after it drys fully so i can asume this plant will be about 2 oz. Produced leafy airy buds despite how robust they apear in the photo. The widow was 3x as dense. This plant did produce a massive amount of resin glands on the leaves climbing out further on fan leaves then any plant I've grown so far....bubble bags

Here is the widow and the hash 2 or 3 weeks before harvest outsite.

Had to chop two kush down today after noticing a handful of seeds starting to form on one and the other just being ready to chop. Maybe I stressed out my female and it hermied and impregnated itself? They should produce 2.5 to 3 oz dry.

2 weeks into bud mode the tent in the greenhouse is doing a great job at keeping my 7 widows in the dark. I need to instal another 8 inch fan to keep the humidity down at night. I was going to put a second scrog net on top but just wired everything down instead. This is an insane amount of bud sites in a space 3.5x7.5 feet. Right before i wired them down at day 7 bud mode I also defoliated the top canopy pretty heavy because it was too dense with fan leaves. I cut off every other fan leaf only if the grown that started from the base of the fan leaf have substantial enough growth to continue past the damage I was doing to the plant.

I ended up cutting the last few down between 60 and 67 days. I was a little discouraged due to the fact that I couldnt get a propper fade and none of my plants reached thier full potential/maturity because of the seeding issue.

Even with the problems I had at the end of the grow every single plant got a decent flush burned to white ash and all except a couple had a very pleasing taste and smell.

This marks year 4 growing for me with the last 2 years taking gardening more seriously. 90% of the knowledge I have gleaned has come from my peers on 2 forums and youtube. Maybe around 500 hours of autodidatic learning.

Some things I have learned from this last harvest.

- Try to do nothing that will stunt or hurt the plant past the second week of bud mode or they might throw unpollinated seeds. Tucking leaves is preffered to cutting them late bud.

- A lower temperature is always prefered. I run my plants at 70-80 f degrees normally and vent my room with filtered outside air which is also the limiting factor on how much wattage or BTUs I can throw in the room. On hot days I am forced to turn my lights down to 1000watts and on normal days I maxed my room out at 1400 watts for most the grow. In past grows with higher temps I noticed my tricomb density is less and heat stress can hurt a plant a lot quicker than the near freezing temps my plants saw some nights since I didnt heat the room with lights off. Next grow I might get a controller that will either turn off the 8 inch fan that runs to keep the humidity down and kick on a heater if it gets too cold. This winter when outside temps stay constant Im guessing i might be able to boost my lights to 2000+ watts and still stay in my temp range. Keep in mind this is all done with a single 2000 watt honda generator (although I did purchase a backup genset on standby).

-Seems to me that flushing and finishing a plant happens a lot quicker in less grow medium. The plants total grow time to finish seems to be quicker as well. I doubt I'll be running 5 and 7 gallon pots on this next round. Ill try 2 to 3 gallons of soil to test the theory.

-When I defoliate in veg or in the first two weeks of bud mode i try to leave enough big lower fan leaves for stress relief. When the plant gets too hot or too cold or too much food added the big fan leaves will take the hit; turn yellow; fall off; get burt tips etc. I like the buffer it gives me.

-I could have gotten better yeild if I topped them. Most of my plants lower buds light was choked out by the top buds since my canopy was so dense.

-I need to cure my plants longer and better.

Those some beautiful plants man, keep up the great work!

Thanks Double Oh Pothead😁,

Just starting week 5 widows are super smelly; delicious. Not as girthy as past widow grows, but id be surprised if I do less than 20oz in this 4x8 space with mostly sunlight for the bud cycle. When i do turn my lights on its when its overcast out and its usually only 600-800 watts mixed spectrum hps and 12 band led. The sun is better than any 1000watt.... Does anyone reading this know if a small light deprivation greenhouse exists for us?

Ok so I chopped everything down. Couple reasons. First... I had to go out of town for 2 days and the gf is not someone I can rely on to turn lights on and off at proper times. I did it manually for 6 months using only a generator for power. Anyways I got back opened the tent and I see mold growing on the inside of the tent. The whole grow has been sunlight and 600 watts led/ 600 watts hps every other day. $1800 fuel cost over 6 months. Second reason is, like a dummy I cut a couple main colas and I was seeing growth remminiscent of hermie on the last go. The stress of putting a toothpick throught the base of the stalk will make the plant throw seeds in just a few days so me cutting tops caused some stress and I wasnt gonna risk it. Looks like 17 to 20 oz. Filled up 8 levels with an average of only 300 watts a day.

Would have loved another week and another 5 gallon flush, but im super happy with the 3 day quickdry top i smoked. Smokes smooth and goes to white ash. Now a propper cure and 3 more days flush... this should be the BomB.

Radical!
Much respect, especially for the off grid aspect and growing under the midnight sun.
No timers, just generator on and off times LOL ;-)
Wow you're pumping more money in fuel through there than my electricity bill for a whole month. Set up that wind generator, come on !
What about security? Are you so far up north that there are absolutely no people around ? Can you drive in and out or is it all hiking ?
Intense.
You must be in scandalnavia, anywhere else in the world the prices for pot would be too low to justify this style of growing ;-)

Good luck for the future and keep it up !

Thanks for the kind words Chevy. I'm in Alaska. In remote villages prices are as high as 50usd for .7gram, but legalization and people like me will change this soon. I got kicked out of my apartment in the city so I had to move into my unfinished house. Blessing in disguise. It is off grid and every single day for 6 months I had to turn on and off the lights, open and close the tent each day on time for 7.5 weeks of bud. I had high humidity through most of bud mode as high as 70-80 with tent doors closed. Being outside I couldnt run fresh air through because I would freeze my plants. With all the hurdles Ive had this crop is a huge success for me. Ended up with 25oz off 7 Widows! Not counting the sun... at 300watts average on the lights I did 2.3 grams per watt. I had to chop it early but Im still very happy with the quality. The fuel bill was expensive, but we always have cook tops, stereo, dvds etc going while the generator is running, and I saved 6000 in rent the last 6 months and 3000 in other peoples Cannabis thats not as good as mine. Just purchased an old cabin nearby that has power. Im gonna blow it up this winter.

Great story and congrats to your well deserved harvest !
That's the way to go, overcome shit and make things work.
Respect and good vibes your way!

Ncali and Chevy. Thank you. Takes a lot of dedication for sure. Im excited about this old cabin I bought. Now I can automate things a bit more and maybe even try some CO2. These girls are 4 weeks to 8 weeks vegging. Two 20 gallon one 10 gallon and six 7 gallon fabric pots.

Widow bubble hash looked about the size of a golf ball.

Update time. Had a 3 week recovery period and now they are fully healed and 7 days into bud mode. Running 800 watts 12 band led 1600 watts hps and 1000 watts MH. All environmental controls are automated. Shooting for 40 oz out of this batch.

Here are my 5 veggers in a 20 gallon. Tried something new. Transplanted these girls from verticle to horizontal to encourage bushy growth instead of having to top a tree shape and wait for it to heal. The first picture is just after transplant and the second is 10 days later. No down time for healing.

That's a lot of watts for 40oz man !
Don't you want to build a room in a room and use some reflective film on the walls ?
Especially since it directly translates into your gasoline bill, you could easily make that room a little more effective I think ? What's with the wind generator?
Don't take this the wrong way, I love your cabin grow and especially liking the first aid kit. Growroom safety is always a priority ;-)
All the best,
cC
