Diesel Ryder SOG in a 150w HPS Mini Fridge

It looks like everything is still going great in your fridge! I'm really interested to see how much the different phenos end up yielding and the difference in quality of smoke, flavor, etc.

Speaking of smoke reports, how about a final yield and smoke report on that A11. You seemed convinced enough to try just the A11 the next grow and I'm wondering why :)

.JPG

Wow, I have no clue how I forgot to do an update on the Apollo11 final yield and smoke report. I know I did an update in one of my threads, but it must have been over on RIU.

Heres a bit of a recap on the Apollo11 for you guys:

Total Veg Time: 35 Days
Total Flower TIme: 56 Days
Total Height: 26 Inches
Total Wet Weight: 128 grams
Total Dry Weight: 37 grams

Unfortunately the only pics I have are the ones I took at harvest. I have since chopped the buds and smoked every damn one! haha! But at least we didnt have to buy crap commercial bud for about 2 weeks! I shared a lot of it, gave a little away and the wife and I rolled up joint after joint of the rest.

The high was incredible for not even really curing the plant. On a couple occasions we rolled up a little blunt and it was all we could do to finish it (and we can handle our shit very well :p). To me it was a pretty motivational high, but for my wife it was highly narcotic. I would have to say we both slept better those 2 weeks than we have in a long time, however. The low odor vs. high yield & potency make this my favorite strain so far. Ive only grown 2 strains that I know the genetics of, but this was easily the best bud I have ever smoked. Everyone and their sister was calling me asking if they could buy some, no matter what the price. None of my friends know I grow except for one that helps me care for them when I am gone, so I simply said the guy I got it from only had a small amount. Thats the main reason I shared so much, I felt sorry for all my friends smoking their crap brick weed :p

Next time I will take more pics and document it a little better. I really put the A11 on the back shelf way more than I should have. I was just so excited growing the Diesel Ryder that the Apollo really didnt start to "wow" me until about 3 weeks flowering. Not to mention that the smell is VERY deceiving on both plants. The DR smells like it would knock your dick in the dirt when in reality the A11 is MUCH more potent. The odor given off by the A11 at its peak was mild at best. I had no carbon scrubber on the fridge I grew it in, and after removing the little DR I had in there with it, the smell was pretty much non existent unless you pinched the bud & smelled your fingers.

I hope A11 takes well to 12/12 from seed, If so I will have a nice SOG of it as soon as possible. We are looking for a new house and I just found out recently that we have our first baby on the way, so operation mini fridge may not be going on much longer, we'll see. Thanks for the interest guys, I will be posting TOOONS of pics once the DRs are harvested, which will be another 1.5 to 2 weeks.

Peace

Dryer Sheets

Dryer Sheets

So I stuffed some dryer sheets in the intake holes for the mini fridge. It did not completely eliminate the smell, but now if I spray some Ozium (which EVERY pot grower should have a can of, its amazing stuff) it now smells just like Ozium, without the skunky undertones like before. This will probably be my last batch of Diesel Ryder for some time, which really upsets me seeing as to how its the only AF strain I have :(

In other news, the hermaphrodite that I planted outside has certainly changed. I went from thinking it was a hermie, to "knowing" it was male, and after not checking on it for about 10 days I went by and Ill be damned it has some bud on it. It is VERY stanky too! I would say the whole plant may amount to 3 or 4 grams dry so nothing to be too excited about, but still neat that its budding!! I probably wont have any pics till I yank her out of the ground though.

I'm glad I popped in before your next update, I hope you read this before you take your plant pictures. I have a request. Can you show some pictures of individual plants, maybe from a couple different angles like one taken from overhead? I don't wanna be too needy but maybe just one or two of the best looking plants get a little more time in front of the camera ;)

I'm hoping things work out for you to be able to get growing again soon. Like you, I too am waiting on a low odor auto flower to become available. Low odor, low profile, and fast flowering would optimize security for me!

I like your style JPG :)

My biggest problem with taking pictures is that I usually take too damn many thanks to the digital camera age. And when I start taking pictures of each plant I get all OCD and I just HAVE to take a picture of each plant every week. My main focus here was to simply do a weekly photo of the top of the plants, and if anyone wanted to see more I figured they would ask...and they did :)

What I will probably do is take my normal 3 shots (group, 4 tallest, 4 smallest) and then Ill snap a nice shot of my 3 favorites. Not because of how big they are, but because of their differences. I may even switch to macro on a top bud or 2 for ya :p

Its been very crazy around these parts with a new baby on the way, busy at work and other important things going on so I havent been putting much flare into the pics. All it takes is knowing that someone wants to see more to motivate me, it makes me feel like I need to do everything to not disappoint HAHA! So Ill snap a few extras just for you tonight, it will most likely be real early tomorrow morning when they are posted, so be looking for them when you get up. If you arent in the US they should be posted by about 3-5AM CST.

DAY 56

Plant Stage: Flower
Light Cycle: 20/4
Light: 150w 2000k HPS
Current Medium:
Sunshine Mix w/ 1 Cup of Bone Meal
Current Nutrients: Molasses 2Tbls per Gallon Every Watering
Strain: Diesel Ryder Autoflower

Here we are at day 56 and I managed to snap a couple extra plant porn shots for you guys :) Lets get right to it so I can go to bed haha!!

Group shot at day 56. Lots of yellowing, a little brown and even some dark purple starting to show on most plants. Its looking like Fall in there, lol.
picture.php

My 4 tallest ladies, all looking nice & healthy. Its amazing how much they keep fattening, I think that molasses is really helping there.
picture.php

My 4 shorties. Lots of yellowing and even some brow/dark purple leaves. I think a little color change is due to heat stress, but some is just from the buds robbing stored energy in the leaves to fatten up.
picture.php

Also, as promised, some extra porn for you enthusiasts out there :) Here is a lovely top view of my girls arranged the same way they always are for the group shot. I rearrange them constantly but always arrange them in this fashion for pictures. you can really see the discoloration of the leaves here, and note the dark purple & brown on certain ones.
picture.php

I also have pictures of my favorite 3 plants I would like to share. As stated before these are my favorites more for their diversity than anything else.

Here is my crazy lady. This damn thing would be an easy 6" taller than the rest if I didnt do some LST. If I had known she was gonna shoot up so fast I would have LSTed earlier. The top buds are all very dense now, and growing larger by the day. Her top bud stands taller than any plant even after being trained over.
picture.php

Macro of her top bud
picture.php

And here is my healthiest girl. This is more the typical style of Diesel Ryders, and if every plant grew like this I would have a perfect SOG setup for sure. She is very dense all the way down the main stem and its by far the bushiest plant with the most green left.
picture.php

Macro of her top bud
picture.php

Lastly we have this little.....thing haha! This little plant somehow topped itself and its outter branches grew MUCH larger than its main stem. Its quite a squatty thing but I am willing to bet the buds on this plant are denser than any buds in the mini fridge. They are like little green rocks!
picture.php

Macro of one of the side buds (aka: top buds)
picture.php

I made sure to take at least 5-6 shots each time I setup for a picture so i would get some good ones. With the crap setup & lighting I had I think they came out OK. If there is anything else you guys want detailed pictures of feel free to ask, Im always happy to oblige!

My final thoughts on day 56 are that most of the plants are showing signs that their lives are ending. None of the bud itself seems to be suffering from heat stress in any way, but a lot of the leaves are curling and I dont know if the dark purple is a natural fluke or the sign of a hot bulb being too close. Either way I am thrilled with my results so far and I cannot wait to harvest these gorgeous mammas! Feel free to throw out any estimates on weight, Im curious to see if anyone gets close. I am still estimating about 3.5oz dry at this point.

We have company coming to town so i clipped one lower branch off one of the tall healthy girls yesterday so it could hang in the closet for a few days before they arrive. I am looking mighty forward to a sampling!

Yea, chop those bitches! How they smell??

Haha, patience is key :) Only about 5-10% amber trichomes atm. As far as the smell, imagine a diesel tanker just ran over 100 skunks then crashed into a tree. My whole house smells something like that :yoinks::yoinks::yoinks:

Trust me when I say, this is not a strain for someone who has a social life or unexpected company. I do not invite anyone over that doesnt come over on a regular basis to smoke anyways. Since they come over to smoke and I generally have good shit, they dont think twice about it since my place always smells like weed. I have found that frying up some bacon will completely cover the smell for a couple days in an emergency, but if you want low odor this is the last strain you want!

5-10 is nice too. You let them go 20%? Properly worth it, maybe they'll phat up even more..

Smell sounds nice ::smoke: What I was hoping for you would say!

The Diesel really goes through everything, got a Yummie D outside, she smell very pungent too.. Can only imagine yours... Maybe when I get a more private place I'll fill it up with Diesel Ryders! Definately a nice, quick, little potent wonder...

Lovely show! 150W can really yield a good amount of dank...

Awesome thread brother and a great job at growing those little bitches!

I didn't see any 150w HPS kits on that link you offered earlier in the thread though. Maybe I missed them somehow? I'm thinking of wiring up a few in order to save some cash and the paranoia of going to my local hydro shop. That place really freaks me out. I'm on the east coast and surrounded by super cops.

I hope it didn't take too much longer to do this update with the extra pictures of individual plants. I must say it is a proper looking update and well worth whatever extra time it might've taken. I appreciate it, def gives a better idea of what we're looking at. I'm loving the colors and trich coverage too.

All in all, great grow! I'm gonna guess your final yield to be 88 dank grams. If you had 8 DR's like the one "ideal" plant pictured above, I'd bet you could get 120-150 grams in that same setup...

Well the first batch of seedless DR I grew I chopped them a week early with probably 20-25% amber trichomes. I did not let them cure as long as I wanted cuz I was out of green, but the potency really didnt impress me as much as the looks & smell of the plant did. I am hoping to let them get to maybe 50% amber or just a hair less to see if it makes a big difference. I did, however, notice that the last buds we pulled out of the jar seemed to have mucyh more potency, so it may just be in the curing alone. The problem is that this time around I will be out as well, so we will need to dig in right away. So heres hoping that 50% will knock my socks off :bongsmi::bongsmi:

Not sure which link you are referring to. I bought everything seperate on 1000bulbs.com though, so it wasnt technically a kit. I bought the ballast & components, bulb and socket for under $60 shipped and wired it up myself. It came with impossible to mess up instructions and worked like a charm. Just keep in mind that the big fat capacitor is not needed if space is an issue, but the igniter is.

Nah it didnt take too long, and youre right it was damn worth it! What do you think about that purple? I have seen plants turn purple when they start to die but I cant tell if thats what it is or if it is getting fried by that 150w bulb.

Either way, Im damn pleased and cant wait to sample a bit this weekend. It will have hung for 4 days in the closet before we smoke it. I would say I pinched probably 2g dry, but Ill weigh it before smokin it so I know for sure.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, another update or 2 and its over, SOOOOO exciting!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

What do I think about the purple? Prob the same thing you're thinking: that it is f'ing awesome! It looks like part of a natural process to me, not frying from your bulb.

And what says you have to harvest all your DR's in one big chop? Chop down a couple every few days over the course of a week and a half. You might find you like the stuff chopped earlier and you won't waste valuable flowering time next grow. Or you might find you like to let 'em go as long as possible. Either way, you'll know one way or the other.

How are they coming? I know it hasn't been 7 days since the last update but things have got to be looking interesting in there. The smell has to be getting fairly interesting too ;) I've seen a thread here on IC and heard somewhere else about pot smelling like feces. Haha, even if it is GOOD shit I don't want it to actually smell like shit. I'm hoping your darker colored plants don't end up smelling like fecal matter because if it smells like shit and looks like shit (dark little nugs) it must be shit, hahaha! I am actually intoxicated on quality pot at the moment and I'm feeling inspired :)

But honestly, I'm sure your busy with real life stuff so keep on keeping on and I'll just keep looking forward to the next update.

Heya JPG

Actually I should have posted last night/this morning but I wasnt feeling up to it. I did manage to take a shot of all the girls though. I let them go probably a day or so longer than I should have without water so the smaller 2 started gettin crispy and the buds were not feeling near as dense as before. I gave them a good flushing last night and this morning they looked much better. I think I will harvest at least the 2 small ones tonight to avoid any more damage. I lowered all the plants down a tad too.

The purple continues to spread on most of them, and I think the heat might be playing a part in it after all. It seems that the plants nearest the light get darker faster. The purple on the leaves almost looks dark brown now, but on the buds themselves it still has a nice purple tinge.

I may need to end the whole op here in a day or so since Im moving and theres talk about my landlord doing an assessment. He said he would give me 24-48 hours notice and hes a VERY cool dude so I know he will. I just want to make sure I have shit in jars by that time or it will be a dead giveaway the second he walks in the door haha!

When I get home Ill post the pic I took last night, and any I decide to chop I will take pics of and post as well. Gonna try to let each plant hang for a week then keep them in jars for at least a week before smoking. I stocked up on some commercial crap and a few 5 packs of blunts so I should be ok :)

I'm glad you're still making time to update this thread, I know how much can be involved in moving out of one house and into another! I hope all goes well with the transition and you know I'll be checking back in here for those pictures so don't hold out!

DAY 63

Plant Stage: Flower
Light Cycle: 20/4
Light: 150w 2000k HPS
Current Medium:
Sunshine Mix w/ 1 Cup of Bone Meal
Current Nutrients: Water Only
Strain: Diesel Ryder Autoflower

Well, let me first apologize for the horrific images I am about to show you. Well, its not really that bad I suppose, but a couple of my ladies got nice & fried. Between being a bit to close to the 150w HPS and me letting them go a day or so too long without water a couple of them got a little crunchy. All of the large ones still look good, and I have backed them away from the lights a tad. I went ahead and chopped down the smallest 2 because they looked the worst.

Heres a shot of all the ladies in the cab on Day 63
picture.php

I removed the 2 smallest, most badly wounded ladies to chop & hang. I took them out of their 2 liter soda bottles to show the root systems, which werent that impressive i didnt think. For the sake of this thread we will call these plants Plant 1 and Plant 2.

Plant 1

Plant 2
picture.php

Plant 1 after trimming & hanging (38g wet)
picture.php

Plant 2 after trimming and hanging (62g wet)

And here is a closeup of the damage to each. most of the crispiness was found in the leaves, but a little made its way onto the bud, I will definitely not have to worry about mold on these

Plant 1 top bud
picture.php

Plant 2 top bud
picture.php

Here is whats left in the fridge, 6 lovely ladies.
picture.php

The plan is to contisue to chop 2 every few days unless other circumstances prevent it. I still want to dry and cure the bud for at least 2 weeks total before smoking, if not longer. It will be difficult, it smells SOOOOOO good!

Ill continue to post pics as i harvest, so i should be updating a bit more frequently until everything is cut. Then after it has all dried i will post a final yield and eventually smoke report. Thanks for hangin in there with me everyone, its been fun and I shall be enjoying the fruits of my labor very soon. :canabis::canabis::canabis:

Do you use a jeweler's loupe or anything else to check the color of your trichs? If you do, are you keeping up with that progress at all to help determine when and which plants get harvested? I'm sure even though they mostly look similar, there are different pheno types in there that mature at different rates. Regardless, it looks like you've got some dank and tasty pot to smoke and more on the way! I'm upping my guess on yield to 103 :) can I do that??

Nice grow man. A friend of mine is also growing DR. He has 2 going now. They are 2 weeks old but look nothing a like. These 2 got stressed real bad. I think the peat dried up on him. for a day or more a couple times... At one point they were stems only every thing else dried up and nearly fell off. I thought they were going to die but they pulled through and here they are.

DR 1

DR 2

The DR are in the skull cups.

Both DR's were planted on the same day. But as you can see not all plants are created equal. The leaves and size are so different. Did you have that much variation in yours?
