Quick Update

Quick Update

HOT5 Tent

On 10/24 I did a major bulb position shift now that buds are developing.

Buds sites are developing quite nicely, and rapidly now

Two days ago, I replaced the ATI blue bulb with a UVL 660 actinic.

Today, I moved a few bulbs around to better compliment the 660 for a better blend reaching the plants

I may wait until Saturday to post new pics, or not

LED Tent

She has filled out considerably, with a nice forefinger tip sized bud on top, and smaller ones on each of the side branches. Her side branches are sturdier than those on the Sat dom plant in my F & D system

Packin On the Bud Sites

Packin On the Bud Sites

What a difference ONE week makes. I was barely seeing what I hoped to be pistil clusters. I think increasing the V+B ppms from 600 to 800, and now 900 was key. It's not so much the ppm, but what that ppm consists of - more N than most think is good + a bit more P, but manly more K.

Daily bud growth is exciting now. I pollinated one branch of 3/4 plants, as I love them for different reasons

HOT5

Picture 1 is the smallest. She has zero branches, so I pollinated a small cola. She is ~ 14" tall, perfect for a SOG grow. A whole bunch of big dicks would look cool

View attachment 190461

She is ~ 20+ tall, shaped like a christmas tree, with a fair number of low branches
View attachment 190462

In the foreground is the Sat dom. Her branches are extremely long and, thin. They will need propping up as the buds fatten up

View attachment 190463

LED

View attachment 190464

All branches are thick, fibrous & strong. The 4 low branches are ~ 16" long coming out at ~ 45*s. The higher branches are very short, more like bud sites

No photos, though I am anxious to post the explosive bud development in just 5 days.

Both tents have visible (but tiny) calyxes developing. The smallest (Indica dom) has the most trics

Lots of photos, so I will have to break them up between 2 replies

LED Tent

Bud development wise, she is catching up to the HOT5, which is a mind blower for me. But it validates what I have been studying on another site- that high wattage is not the be-all, end-all, and that's a good thing on many levels

As I do not have sufficient low watt bulbs yet, I rotate the plant 180*s each day so that both sides benefit from the supplemental lighting.

She is ~ 3ft tall, and 2 ft wide at the widest

HOT5 Tent

Here I have noticed curling on the newest small leaf sets. Not sure why, so I stopped recycling nutes and will monitor

HPA

The smallest cola phenotype has the most crystals

The root shot is from the 2nd tallest in hpa

F & D

Thinking that in nature plants get less waterings from mid harvest> , I cut feed frequency back to 1:60 minutes: @ ~ 23 seconds on roots are getting plenty of liquid

Pic 1-2 are all 3 plants. 1 has F & D in foreground; 2 has HPA in foreground. #3 is F & D top bud

Pic 4 is smallest cola (Indica dom). 5 is more Sat dom than #4

HPA Root Porn

HPA Root Porn

Photo is of the larger of the 2 HPA plants. Not a great shot as I am holding lid up with one hand and stabilizing/clicking a 35mm camera with the other

Root mass is fluffy loaded with tiny root hairs which are the most efficient for nutrient uptake, and only appear when conditions are favorable.

Yesterday I increased pause time by another minute. Now 3 sec on: 6 minutes off

LED Tent

I pulled the 50w Basking bulb as temps were too warm for flowering

HOT5 Tent

Based on recent SDS input regarding Sun Adapted Plants v Shade Adapted Plants (lower watts), this morning I removed 2 bulbs from my HOT5 tent (now 6 @ 54 w) + I replaced a UVL actinic 660 with a UVL Red Sun/Life (635 peak). I now have 3 Red Suns + one Coral Wave + 2 UVL Aquasuns
(way too much green for flower, and maybe even veg- aha!). Comparing the graphs, I replaced Aquasun with another Wave Point Florasun.

New configuration

1. ZooMed Flora Sun
2
UVL Red Sun/Life
3 UVL Red Sun/Life
4 Wave Point Coral Wave
5 UVL Red Sun
6. Zoomed Flora Sun

total 324w over a 2 X 4 area

It will be interesting to see how the 3 plants respond

the roughly 36 hour update to replacing the green heavy bulbs (even though they were on the far sides) in my T5 tent is very interesting. I also took out the actinic 660

HPA

1. Buds on both plants are noticeably thicker, with many more pistils

2. The lowest buds the largest plant (some 3ft from the bulbs) have easy doubled the amount of pistils

F & D

Only this plant (Sat dom) has exhibited curling secondary leaves. Since the nutes are the same as for the HPA, I have wondered what else could be the cause. Possibly spectrum imbalance. It appears the newest leaves are flat, but too soon to declare the better balance of spectrums is the reason, but there is nothing else to point my finger to

Thankfully, everything is on point, so not much to say. Here are today's photos

LED Tent

Note lowest buds are pretty decent size and tight, yet 24"+ below the ufo and ~ 14" below the low watt led bar

HOT5 Tent

First pic is my Lil SOGer. She still has the most trics

View attachment 192838

Close up of the Sat dom main cola. Note how the secondary leaves 2" down are curled under, but those on top are not, at least at this point, so MAYBE too much green was causing the curling

HOT5

Unlike the pistils in my LED tent (~80*s), the pistils anywhere near the HOT5 canopy are somewhat dried out, not due to age, but radiant heat. Not that the heat is that hot, but ambient temps here are warm for flowering, and pistils are delicate

I had cut my fan back to 15 min on every 45 minutes, so this morning I increased the fan's on time. TBC

Roughly 3-4 weeks from harvest, so yesterday I cut back to 4 bulbs. 216w should be plenty for the final leg.

Currently using 3 UVL RedLife + one Zoomed Florosun. I may replace one RL with one 660

This is an excellent grow bulb, also adding 1/3-4 during flower to 2-3 UVL Red Lifes is a good idea

Thanks. New pics in a bit

Using a mix of screw bulb LEDs; CW ~ 6500 + WW ~ 3000 + NW ~ 5000. I do not have equipment to test, so just place a white envelope under them to determine approximate values.

Had a near catastrophe in my led tent yesterday morning.

The hanging hooks at the end of the tent poles are prone to snap for no apparent reason- ~ 6 pound ufo. I was within 10 ft of the tent when I heard the crash. Fortunately, the light did not fall straight down, but snapped one low branch, which should heal.

Needless to say, my heart was in my throat

The clamp portion should be 'U' shaped to snap over the pole. This pic is only half of what it should be. This happened once before and they sent me 2, but from the same source. New ones supposedly coming, but they did not send them

DAMN!!!!!!!! That looks like some damn poor designing there my friend.. Let me ask you something though and it may sound off but.......are you running any UV in that tent because not all plastics are UV resistant.. Just a thought........

Good Luck and I know how you felt. I came home one day and found the fan laying on top of my girls....Nearly cried but it all worked out.

HOT5 tent

In preparation for the final push to harvest, I raised the fixture as high as it would go, and cut number of bulbs back from 8- 6- 4. Also reduced feeding cycles, and/or amount of nutes per feeding- all this to simulate mother nature.

Thankfully, the weather over the last 10 days has been much cooler

Bud shots are from left to right plus one group shot to show lower bud growth

sweet...that last picture (bottom right) shows some very very healthy undergrowth there!!

The more I see, the more of a die-hard firm believer I become in LEDs. Doesn't matter which school of thought anyone follows...watt for watt....LEDs just kick HID butt especially in quality!!

Excellent work man..
