In my recent renewal package, I got this leaflet about the registration time. It now starts from the date Heath Canada Issues the certificate, not the date your Dr signs. So no more lost time.

You will find enclosed your original Registration Certificate issued under the Access to Cannabis for
Medical Purposes Regulations (ACM PR). This insert includes important information on the expiry date
of your registration and on what you need to do to submit a renewal application.
Important information regarding the expiry date of your registration
As you may be aware, the current regulatory requirement under the ACM PR requires the expiry date of
your registration to correspond to the period of use that begins on the day on which the medical
document is signed by your health care practitioner.
You may also be aware that it can take in excess of eight weeks to process an application and issue a
registration that authorizes you, or your designate, to produce a limited amount of cannabis for medical
purposes. The time to review an application and issue a registration is highly dependent upon a number
of factors, including the number of applications received, the completeness of the applications, and the
response time of applicants or health care practitioners, who may be contacted by our client service
representatives to verify information or to request additional verification. While the validation of this
information can take time, these efforts are necessary to ensure that the certificate issued by Health
Canada is accurate and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Heath Canada has heard from patients that the time it takes to process an application can reduce the
period of time available to produce a limited amount of cannabis for medical purposes. In response to
these concerns, Health Canada has issued a class exemption under section 56 of the CDSA that allows for
the period of use of your registration to begin on the date your registration was issued by Health
Canada. This means your registration certificate is valid for the length of time that your health care
