There are numerous reasons why we use ac.

Biggest one being it's extrodinarily difficult to transmit dc over long distance making ac the more economically viable option.

For solar and energy storage dc is money though.

I'm well aware, I'd like to have my server room wired up for DC, but only routers and switches have a serious selection of DC options, most servers are still AC only. DC makes power redundancy simple, just banks of batteries, and a DC generator..
