Then let it dry till kinda light by weight, but should still look damp. Then just start up feeding again as usual.

I tend to do that over a big bucket or something that holds water so I can guesstimate at amounts.

Flushing is really just washing excess salts/nutrients/buildup of whatever, out of your medium. I think you can do that all in one go and not wait for it to dry. A little bit of h2o2 in your nutrient water might be a good idea when doing that half strength feeding.
