Don't Trust Facebook

^^^ well, i didn't find that to be true. they play a bait and switch ... i boost my business posts and for 30 days get great audience, then, nothing. much more money required to get the same audience. now they changed the algorithm, yet again, this time to remove most business posts and ads from the news feed. they are not a business marketing platform anymore. i sure ain't spending anymore money with them. this is a business model? i don't see it. what i did see, is that people (the audience) just wants to be entertained, they won't even click away to another website, even though i got 200K "engagements". Just because you can measure clicks, thumbs, and comments don't mean shit ... well, it means you can measure these "engagements", but the only measure i care about is my business sales - and i got NONE from FB - for my $1000 marketing testing over 90 days.

next time a millennial tells me FB is a great business marketing vehicle, well, i'll just smack them with my purse (man purse, that is).

and Instagram is a total shitshow. how can anyone be seen on that platform?

the world, evidently, desperately needs diversion from the real world shitshow ... and FB/IG is happy to oblige.

imho.

I joined FB to chase down an old friend I had lost touch with. I knew he'd be on there and I was able to contact him in a matter of hours.

I never post personal info, just random stuff. Nothing my employer could use against me like pictures of me drinking or anything drug related. You won't even see a pic of me at all, just a picture of a squirrel with a skull helmet.

I don't get into politics, don't comment on politics, or anything controversial.

I primarily use it to help promote my friends band.

I sure as fuck don't post when I go on vacation, or where I'm going any given day.

I'm not defending Facebook or any social media.but why would someone not keep track or openly advertise illegal activity.if someone wants to share there vacation I personally don't givery a shit.Ifew someone wants to advertise there "dank weed"that's on them too.I personally don't give a fuck.I just want to make money.if Facebook wants to remind the government that I got caught with booze and a joint 20 years ago then I'll just say fuck them.did you guys really think you can escape digital data as long as you use a computer or cell phone?I don't like it either but you can't escape it.this is the future and it's here to stay.unless you wanna go off the grid just stay away from people that use it.that's what I did

Censored by Facebook, too. "For Security Reasons".

For those who might be interested, Facebook will be hosting a Live Conference Call on Wednesday January 31.

2 PM Eastern, 5 PM Pacific.

https://investor.fb.com/investor-ne...arter-and-Full-Year-2017-Results/default.aspx

I propose people calling in, saying something like,
"My favorite Cannabis strain is Lemon Bubble Kush",
and then,
"I pledge to Boycott all Facebook Advertisers".

or ... just say how you really feel about Facebook.

The Investor Relations people like their conference calls to be like a super well organized tea party for the Queen.

They have no way of knowing which investors on the conference call are there for which reason - once you get past Ms. Deborah Crawford, whose email is on the Facebook Investor Relations page.

It leaves the Facebook corporate suits with a very interesting choice - shut down the conference call so its only Facebook suits talking.

OR ... let us talk about our favorite Cannabis strains - on their conference call ... with the entire investment world listening.

The way the conference call prep usually works is, you call in 20 minutes early, you say a name, and you identify your investment affiliation, e.g. "Private Investor".

Extra bonus points for anybody who gets a bubbling/ bubbler sound on the conference call audio !

Not trying to pry but how did you get banned? Sounds like a good story lol.

Just posting funny anti Hillary memes, I got flagged for hate on one meme it was basically Bill getting a bj under the desk when he was supposed to be doing important shit for hillary and the other one was a anti Isis meme showing Hillary as the leader that one got me banned for a couple days so I just got sick og the bullshit and deleted my account.

No one wants the internet of the 90's back. Dial up, Geocities, shitty porn. What great times those weren't.

Social media is a shithole, but if you want to keep track of the industry, here ain't it. You have to hover over several platforms. I don't live in the city and we don't have an open community up here. No mingling or the like, unless you want to go to a sausagefest event or cup full of last years ideas.

there was a point, when the medical programs started becoming accepted, when people went nuts with openly admitting and even advertizing their work, IG popped at at the perfect moment with the right service allowing everyone to basically spam themselves. while here we still operate under the tos from the days of no legal what so ever. there has been a paradigm shift. instead of threads people want to follow people, or as well as. maybe their is an add on which would allow this.

the thing is the free platform IG offers comes at a high price when it comes to them watching and recording your every move online, down to your pms (they call it DM, so you can't say you expected privacy, like yo would if it was still called a pm), even deleted ones are kept for ever. there needs to be a way to both allow people to show their wares, but not have to give up all their privacy rights.

maybe many don't care right now, but as time passes and these profiles are used more and more against people, they might well reconsider joining any of these sites. even the FB messenger app makes you agree to allow them to listen to your mic and watch your camera to gather data about your interaction with their app apparently.

to even get to the information about what they all make you agree to, you have to be prepared to read and read and read for a good few hours. and in the end it says they reserve the right to do as they please and change the terms any time in any way they want, lmao. i spent about 1 hour browsing the terms one day on FB thinking ill make a account for convenience. after an hour id gotten about half way through, skipping bits that seemed irrelevant or harmless, but i got no further, it was enough to know i could not in all good conciounce agree to the terms of use there, not even for a harmless account.

The thing about announcing your vacation plans advertises the fact you are not home. Pretty much an open invitation to get robbed, especially if you just posted pics of your new 70" HDTV and surround sound system.

I don't care one way or other about someone doing drugs or whatever. But advertising your personal life to the world will only end badly, no matter if it's your employer firing you for pics of you smoking weed, or thieves ripping you off while on vacation.

There's nothing wrong with being on Facebook, just be mindful of what you advertise, because that is what you are doing, advertising.

How about that guy that posted a big bag of weed and said "medical marijuana come get it" then he got raided in a reefer madness state? You think he trusts Facebook?

This is something worth discussing. If there was a way, when someone mentions a users handle, they are notified, so they can continue to engage in the conversation, that'd be better than a full thread subscription.

As with all things in the universe, there is a yin and yang to it. And, as is also true in the universe, Facebook doesn't kill people. People kill people. LOL

How many of you FB users have a password less than 8 characters? That's about a half hour brute force attack. How about 4 digits. OMG, I could GUESS that one in a half hour. LMAO

So, let's take a HYPOTHETICAL situation.....

Let's say I'm a pretty decent hacker and I can easily hack 3 or 4 FB accounts per day. Now, I am in your account and you don't even know it.

I read your PM's I read your posts and I wait. Maybe I can trace your IP. Maybe then, I can get right into your home PC (or your phone which few people use anti-virus on). Let's check out your friends. Let's find Grandma.

Got your IP and your email addresses. Send you a virus to disable your puter for a few days. Make it so you can't get on FB. Change your password. Easy stuff.

Now, I start contacting your 'friends'. I message your Grandma and tell her something disastrous has happened (in jail, whatever) and I need money wired to me right away.

Start contacting friends asking for Paypal donations for some reason.

It can go on and on.

Sure, some of the people are going to see something's wrong. Many won't. Some will actually send the money. Happens every day.

This "hypothetical" hacker's Father did the same thing before computers. He used the mail. Or the phone. Or, face to face. Whatever. Like I said, Facebook doesn't kill people. People kill people.

Be smart. Keep security in mind. Watch what you post.

As for the information that Facebook collects...Does FB take your info for data collection? Absolutely. Does Google do the same thing every time you search? Absolutely. Are the browser's doing it? You bet they are. Probably reports everything you post every where you go. How about your phone? Every word and every call. Fuck, even your TV is listening. LMAO

It ain't Facebook, folks. It's the 21st century. Welcome.

Don't blame the players. Blame the game.

:)

I don't think simply typing a username can spark an alert to that user but if someone 'quotes' a post of yours vBull can notify you that you have been quoted and where.

Facebook can do what you ask. :) If you type someone's username in your post, they are notified (I think, aren't they?).

On uk4*2*0* they have an @ function
You type @ then the username (as you type the name a box opens up enabling you to click on the name)
When you @ringodoggie then you would get a notification.
Works well

Pretty neat. I stopped in and checked. They are not using vBulletin, they are using IPS. However, I'm sure vBull has the feature or an add-on that would do that. It's a copy-cat world. If one has it, they all have to have it. LOL

Lets not forget Google either guys, the elites from silicon valley are producing essentially the 'big brother' and 'uncontrollable AI' that scientists and science fiction writers have been theorizing and writing about for years, in way that I think they can't even understand as of yet. There's going to be a point where these technologies become too big for themselves, I'd personally say we're already pretty close to that point. Facebook and Google have more power than most governments.

It's pretty amazing the difference in using Facebook and Google through services like TOR while running ad and script blockers. It's pretty scary, but at the same time I find it exciting, there are positive possibilities to these technologies. Aside from the obvious capitalistic platforms they've become, they still connect people and provide information in a way not possible even just 20 years ago.

It's going to be an interesting future. Stay safe, smart, and most importantly sane, it truly is a brave new world out there.

An ex facebook executive has gone to great lengths to talk about how dangerous facebook is to our society, psychologically. if you care enough, google it.

Also, there is a man by the name of Edward Snowden that showed us in June or July of 2013 that the government is watching everything. He even showed us how. Names of programs, ETC ETC.

Be weary of guys around here as well with high post counts and large amounts of karma that have been here for years with not much to show for but a bunch of copied .gifs and .jpegs

Yeah facebook is lame, pretty much an online popularity contest where people are self snitching and getting themselves busted all day. Get in trouble with the courts? Probation officer, judge, pretrial all gonna be looking at that shit lol. Got gang affiliations? Be sure to make it known on your facebook with your real name and gang signs pictures, it will surely help your case.

But in the end, who gives a fuck about facebook, waste of time idiots sitting around watching videos, but it can be nice to see what people are up to, or look up people from the past, or for trolling emo rap fans, or trolling Groups following Cosmo Dinardo or other murderers thats about all I use it for anymore anyway.

On a sidenote around the time of the Cosmo Dinardo murders I was kicked out of the group a 4-5 times and had a good 6 different facebook accounts permanently banned, for various reasons not all of them related to the group, so facebook isnt all bad some fun can be had.
