Set in 1991 on the inner-city streets of Oakland, California, cocaine dealer Charles Cosby has his life changed forever when he writes a fan letter to the "Cocaine Godmother" Griselda Blanco, who is serving time at a nearby federal prison. Six months later, Cosby is a multi-millionaire, Blanco's lover, and the head of her $40 million a year cocaine business. Also known as "The Black Widow" for her propensity to permanently dispose of her men when she's done with them, Blanco will stop at nothing to ensure that Charles is faithful to her. Cosby soon learns that he's in way over his head.

Not to be confused with the 1979 movie, Cocaine Cowboys. It's got Jack Palance and Andy Warhol in it. This version is five hours long, but I have a version on DVD that's 90 minutes.

I really wanted to like that one....

I recommend The Pacific (HBO), a ten-part companion to Band of Brothers. It hits hard, maybe even harder than BoB (which I consider excellent)

I really wanted to like The Pacific.. Not that it's bad, but compared to BoB I thought it was forgettable. Might have to watch it again someday to see if gets better the second time around.

You guys want to see a low budget Indie Vietnam war movie, check out '84C MoPic'. If you're looking for a hero story with big explosions and action scenes, this one's not for you. For those interested in Vietnam war, and how individual soldiers felt about it and what they did there, should be a good one. I'd watch this one again rather than say, 'We were soldier', which wasn't totally bad, just a bit shit.

From wikipedia:
The film is a mock documentary of a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) mission during the Vietnam War. The point of view is from a cameraman following a LRRP team on a five-day patrol deep in "Indian Country" (territory controlled by the North Vietnamese). The cameraman is nicknamed "MoPic" by the team, because of his alphanumeric military occupational specialty, 84C20, Motion Picture Specialist. The supposedly routine mission, however, goes wrong and eventually turns into a struggle for survival.

84 Charlie MoPic has an 83% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 6 reviews. Roger Ebert, awarding the film three stars out of four, wrote:

"84 Charlie MoPic" deserves a place by itself among the films about Vietnam. It is a brave and original attempt to record nothing more or less than the actual daily experience of a unit on patrol, drawn out of the memories of men who were there. I’ve never seen a combat movie that seemed this close to actual experience, to the kinds of hard lessons that soldiers are taught by their enemies. The filmmakers have earned their right to shoot with a subjective camera — because the eyes we are really seeing through are their own."

Last I looked the movie was uploaded to youtube, don't know about the quality, but then I have the DVD and it's not exactly HD either. :tiphat:

Dead Man's Shoes

Me and a few mates watched it last night.
really enjoyed it, laughing too much at certain scenes.

The film was shot in three weeks in the summer of 2003.
Its a small British made movie, but the acting and plot take it to another level.

Here’s one that’s almost impossible to find: Martin by George Romero.

Is Martin a vampire? Or just a very disturbed teenager? The movie won’t tell you, but it’s pretty much the exact opposite of Night of the Living Dead. Much better...in a claustrophobic sort of way....

Oh, look, the thing is on YT! Here’s the theatrical trailer:

...and here’s the movie: ”Martin” (1976)

Govt dark projects gone awry? I got a kick out of the movies, but they're right at the edge of my gore limit. I'm very against the "saw" type films with ultra-real gore and massively negative mind set.
