Mini Fridge Grow

M

Melkor420

So my good buddy Aerohead and I were bowling one night with some Sailor Jerry and came up with a great Idea! I have a good ole Coleman Convertible Cooler. The cool part is that these coolers already come with a built in sump with drain, as well as shelving for scrogging. We put her together in a couple minutes for your eyes only, ICMAGers! I call it a Boleman Wiserbud Mini Fridge. Hope you like her.... By the by it's Northern Lights!!! We will be putting a 100-216w PL-L system in shortly.

RE: ventilation

RE: ventilation

The ventilation provided at this point is a 120mm PC fan with a large passive intake. When the new PL-L lighting system is installed, it will be 3 120mm PC fans. At this point, closed and sealed, the fridge is only 4 degrees above ambient temp. In my opinion that is very impressive. Thank you for the post and keep lookin, more to come...

When I ran a 150 HPS in my freezer a single 76 CFM axial was sufficient for cooling and could handle a DIY odorsock type filter. I doubt it could've handled a legitimate scrubber but, I never really tried. Sounded just like an old freezer should.

NOT saying stick to one fan, just ... relating the story.

Great looking cab! Love the dragon!

RE: Freezerboy

Thank you for your time and consideration in your advice. I have absolutely no noise from this unit at all. Aerohead and I have flush mounted the fan inside the wall of the fridge itself so as to be flush on the outside. I will be able to present pics of this soon, as I haven't taken them yet. As far as no-stink... personally my house is big enough not to care about the stink... so a carbon filter probably won't be necessary. At this time the DWC and the single fan are taking care of everything, however, I think it will be interesting to see what happens once the plants hit the scrog and are running the PL-L system that is on order.

RE: expert

RE: expert

First I would like to say thank you for your post. I have heard of your expert advice. I have been growing outdoor organic for years. I am learning from a great friend of mine, Aerohead, and he is showing me the way to make my dream possible. I will be posting very constantly with what is added as well as when they grow. They are 7 days cloned at this point and barely have roots to show. As soon as something comes up you will be able to see. But in theory, this will be a sweet scrog setup.\

P.S. Anyone who knows what you are doing is welcome to leave advice as I am very new to the non-dirt method!

Wow, nice job Coleman! I didn't know they were making grow cabs once up on a time. I dig.

Cozy Amnesia

I always thought fridges/freezers where the perfect environment for a grow cab. Insulated (for sound), doors close perfectly sealed, and they're always white on the inside. The only thing is that you're going to have to grow those girls pretty small in order for everything to fit...

RE: Cozy Amnesia

I know, they are going to be tiny little buds, but the idea that I am running here is simple. Get one fridge going to it's max potential, then get a couple more going and have a perpetual fridge setup! I hope to get 4-8" spears and about 40-60 bud sites. new pics coming soon

With a ScrOG, all you need is 14" or so. 4-6 under the screen, 6 above and a couple of inches between canopy and light. Some put the screen right on top of the res.

My Destroyer colas were 19" long but, only 6" tall.

RE: Grow height

RE: Grow height

Snowman 06 ; Freezerboy: I have a 3 Gallon DWC under the plants. There is 5 inches between net and scrog screen. There is 9 Inches from scrog to top of unit. Right now there is only 3.5" between the light and the screen, but when I put the PL-L system in it will have the full 9" from scrog to lights.

NEW PICS + 1 week old Root Porn!

NEW PICS + 1 week old Root Porn!

So, just to let you know, I am adding a few shots that are new. The root baskets on the left side are starting to show virgin very healthy and webbed roots. The scrog screen, and the back of the case showing the flush mounted 120 mm pc cooling fan. Keep in mind that these plants are going to be mounted with a different PL-L lighting system, at which time I will also be adding 2 more 120 mm pc cooling fans for proper ventilation. Thank you very much for your continued support of my pet project, and keep the comments coming!

Question on lighting

Question on lighting

The PL-L system I am thinking of is 5- 24watt PL-L lights mounted on the very top of the fridge spanning from back wall to the front door. The thought that I am having now is that I would like to put the other 2 120 mm fans in the back, but I am thinking that I want to put ones with blue LEDs because I heard that a blue spectrum is very good for the plant's growth. As I have no experience in this I was hoping some of you could help me out.

What do you think?

Expert,

Maybe if I give a little more detail it would help. I am doing a 24hr veg time until the girls get up past the screen, and I am planning on putting One fan in the hole at the bottom with no lights, and one more fan in between the two blowing directly on them. I was thinking of putting the LED fan in this position, on a timer when it goes into bud. As I have not had a problem with heat I think that 2 fans should be good at night, and the third can simulate daytime wind and add some blue light. My only thought is that I don't know if the blue LEDs will reflect off the sides and roof of the fridge, or weather they will just shoot into the side of the plant, and if this will even help.

Let me know bro;

:respect:

Expert,

I don't have pics of them, but I have seen them on E-bay with blue and red LED lights. What about the color helps the plants grow to a more intoxicating potency? Installed the lighted fans will look just like the one that is currently installed, but it will be shooting blue or red LED light into the fridge. I am so excited about this project as it is my first grow ever without dirt, and without being outside!
