ethanol help

hello there guys...

im fairly new to the process of making good quality resin oil
to smoke...typically I use pure buds, and ISO 99
so far ive made about 6-8 different batches successfully

im under the impression that ethanol offers better flavour
and to me, that's what it is all about....good flavor,

I strive to create an oil, that has a thick viscosity, has a good punch to it leading to an enjoyable "high",
and a sweet smell while burning

so this thread is about trying to locate some food grade ethanol
non denatured of course, in Ontario Canada

ive read multiple times from different sources about ethanol
and I definitely want to try using some,
however because the "LCBO" has over proof ethanol locked down (Nazi's) it is damn near impossible to find

my American friends are constantly referring to everclear pure grain alcohol, which is nice....but not here
everclear is available in Canada in Alberta and Quebec provinces only, but not in Ontario

which brings this thread to you...a simple question

-WHERE IN ONTARIO CAN YOU FIND PURE GRAIN OVER PROOF ALCOHOL ???

any comments and/or suggestions are very much appreciated

thanks again,

Make your own. Distill some cheap 40% vodka into 99%. It's a pain in the ass unless you make a trip to Quebec for Everclear. I live in AB so it's available on the shelf in most liquor store.

Can you get 200 proof reagent grade from a chemical supplier?

well hello again, gray wolf

what exactly is "reagent grade"....and are there denatured additives in it to deal with..?

there are all kinds of different grades at suppliers
some of which require a special permit to purchase in Ontario, Canada

I think the best stuff I uncovered would be organic
made from sugar cane, apparently offers flavor enhancing extracts, but the cost is prohibitive and a min 19liter purchase
so big $$$

its the flavor im after, so I know ethanol is the way to go
not so much ISO 99....still having difficulties sourcing something reasonable in Ontario

thanks again wolf,

I make my own cane sugar wash and distil it to 99%AVB then store it on drying agent to get the last bit out, so it 100% pure. I buy the sugar at bulk price and recover it when extracting resin so only need to top up my stock once a year, and that’s mostly because I clean with it too. I wash down my tents and flush my aero systems with it too. Only thing I don’t do is drink it.

Reagent grade is not denatured and typically used in a lab. Around here, you have to either pay the liquor taxes on it, or keep a log of usage to prove it is being used as a reagent in the lab.

As noted there are also food grades used as a flambe. It is also undenatured.

You can make 190 proof from a fermented sugar wash using a refluxing still.

You can also remove water from a lower proof alcohol water mixture, using Drierite:

thank you for sharing this ,
perhaps one day I might try making my own source too
sounds like an economical and quite feasible idea...

in the future, I might buy a chinese made stainless/copper still
use it for refining my own ethanol...and rig it up for a closed loop system for extraction and recovery.....

thanks pal, appreciate it

That’s exactly what I did :) my chinese all stainless 5 gallon stil wasn’t expensive and lasts for years. You can use it to distil water really quickly too. If you heat it by burning rubbish or find fire wood its free water purification.
