Alternative ingestion methods

When using marijuana/thc for medicinal purposes its not always viable to smoke it depending on your illness.

For this purpose, i would like to share an old method that my wife has discovered form reading about the beat generation poets and the antics they got up to in tangier in the late 50's.

For reference purposes this comes directly from the book,
"Ginsberg a biography." by Barry Miles.



William Burroughs spoke of a ""Hash Candy" or "Majoun" in this book and what they did was make hashish candy by using

* finely chopped kiff
*caraway seeds
*ground nutmeg
*cinnamon
*and honey

Heat until it becomes sticky and use one tablespoon in which he stated would "see him through the night", what ever that means :D

Furthermore,

When Allen and his partner visited Bill in Tangier in the late 50's, it was recorded that they rolled that "Majoun" into balls, chewing it for hours and washing it down with tea, and after an hour or so it produced a slow strong marijuana high that hey likened it to peyote.

According to Peter Lamborn Wilson, the Heddawiyya Sufi order of Morocco is entirely devoted to the ritual, meditational and magical uses of cannabis. Majoun is, perhaps, the most legendary of all psychoactive confections — a potent blend of dried fruits, nuts, spices, honey and cannabis.

Total time
4+ hours

1/4 oz. tops cannabis sativa, crumbled, stems and seeds removed
1 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup ground walnuts
1 tsp. Ground nutmeg

1 tsp. anise seed
1 tsp. dried ginger
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup water (more if needed)
2 tbsp. melted butter or ghee

In a dry skillet, toast the marijuana over very low heat until it begins to release an aroma. Combine it with the dried fruit, walnuts, spices, honey and water, and cook until the ingredients are soft. Remove to a heavy bowl and mash this pulp until the ingredients are well blended; or put into a food processor and blend, using several short pulses.

Add the butter and stir until well blended. Spoon into a jar and store in the refrigerator. Serve on crackers, eat by the fingerful, or use as a filling for mamoul.

I would still use hash instead of any kind of leaf matter though, just to get a more palatable taste. Strong plant material taste can be a little strong ive found.

from a chef's point of view this recipe has a couple faults, one being that toasting bud dry in a pan will degrade/destroy a bit of the thc, reaching the smoke/vaporization point. you also want more butter for that much bud, the fat is how we extract the thc for munching. im all for eating it though, and something thats easy and very tasty is to use a box of brownie mix, of your choice, take double the oil it calls for and put it in a bakeable dish. add powdered bud (1/8th-1/4), mix and bake at 225 for 20 minutes. then use the oil to make the brownies, bake, and get ready, hehe.

Hiya natty

Newb here, getting ready for my first grow, but I know something about olive oil. Olive oil tends to burn pretty easily at lower temperatures than other oils and regular butter, don't know how easy it would be to cook canna in it without burning the oil. If you want a healthy oil, you could always use some palm oil ( not palm kernal oil ) - it's what Paul Newman uses in his light popcorn. Only 50% saturated, healthy stuff and can take a bit of heat...

Just a quick note on Green Garlic Toasted.... We made fresh cannabutter up in Oregon from small buds and high grade trim from some Big Sur Holy Weed. Then we pulled some fresh garlic from my buddy's garden and picked up some great sourdough in Eugene.

So, I spread the cannabutter liberally on the bread, squeezed fresh garlic all over the butter then topped with graded Romano originoso cheese from Tuscany. We broiled the toast until lightly brown.

My buddy, a fellow patient who lives outside of Eugene had a large piece of toast with our dinner. This guy has a big tolerance. About 8 PM (one hour after dinner) we were utterly fried and had to go to bed. Later we computed we'd each consumed the equivalent of about 3-4 grams of cannabinoids. I slept with the rat terrier under the covers and you could have dropped a bomb I wouldn't of woke up.

The point is: Green Garlic Toasted is the most potent of all of those recipes. Use good cheese and fresh garlic and it's divine.

good suggestions, what i like to do is just get a box o brownie mix, double the oil and bake the bud and oil first at 250 for half an hour or so, then mix brownies as normal. tastes great, ad you can pick whatever kind you want. for a batch id say use 1/8th to 1/4 of kindbuds. hope yall like.

in the case that youve already got cannabutter made, go for a sugar cookie or choc. chip, anything that has a high (pun intended) butter content should work fine, just make em as normal plus a little extra butter. i think pot ganache would be awesome for frosting too. im gonna patent that.

10 ounces fine-quality chopped milk chocolate
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cup cannabutter
1/8 teaspoon salt


bring cream, cannabutter, and salt just to a boil, and pour over the chopped chocolate in a bowl, stirring it in till smooth. chill overnight, scoop into balls with a melon baller, and coat with either shaved chocolate, or cocoa powder. dosage will vary with size of truffles, and potency of cannabutter. enjoy!


edit- you can add a tablespoon or two of your favorite liquor if you like as well, but the mixture may take longer to set up.

Whoa Molto! I've had those truffles and they rock. They are a great combo of cannabutter and chocolate and if you look at the ratio of ingredients you can see they are VERY potent.

I helped make some last year with a lady who is a cannycandy specialist. Her trick? Lots of stirring.

When they are making Majoun im goign to use hash, not bud matter, so that would reduce the yucky green plant taste dramaticly imo. Mixed with those nuts and honey and im sure it will be a tasty hit. Just waiting for my harvest and im going to make a batch while im waiting for the nugs to cure i tink :D

Got sent this a few days ago, a bit sweet but maybe that will give it a more palatable taste in smaller doses.?

melt your butter gently in a medium sized pan. add the condensed milk and start stirring, heat a bit and start to stir in the sugar, stir until its nice and smooth and the suger has melted, add a couple of teaspoons of vanilla essence. now turn the heat up, you need to boil it, but this shit will burn in a matter of seconds if you stop stirring once it's really hot. just keep stirring constantly for probably 40 mins( believe me it's worth it) it's hard work and you'll have to switch hands, you'll know when it's done as it darkens slightly and thickens up sticking to the sides much more, quickly pour into lined dish, allow to cool at room temp, cut before it's cold.

this will make a one and a half pound slab of wicked fudge, with my butter that's about 80-100 pieces that will have you nicely toasted.

i make my butter with at least 1 oz buds + 1 oz frosty trim, from that i get two 1 1\2 lb slabs. try it people it's great, but be warned, you can get much higher eating my fudge than you can smoking, it's taken a few people by surprise. i showed my friend how to make it and he made a batch twice as string as mine which was just too much, unless you want to be unable to move or speak. get the dosing right and you never need smoke again.

i would say that the only downside is that as a smoker you are used to getting your hit straight away, but the fudge can take up to an hour to kick in properly, sometimes longer if say you eat it after a meal.

but the upside is the stone lasts a few hours. i've got into the habit now in the evening of eating a piece then thinking, right i've got an hour to sort out lifes boring shit then bam i'm beatifully stoned. i really don't miss smoking.

thanks dr. jay, im a big fan of truffles, and theyre so easy to make that everyone should be able to. im a culinary student as well, so i can be pretty sure these will be tasty and do the trick, hehe. damn...now i want chocolate.......

Anyone tried MJ capsules? A lot of my patients can't stand the taste of MJ brownies, cookies or anything cooked w/ mj.

1/2 ounce high quality MJ
coffee grinder, or glass blender
empty gel capsules
olive oil
oven safe bowl


1. grind the mj into fine powder w/blender or grinder, put powder into bowl, make sure you get all the hash that is stuck to the side of the blender/grinder(a clean 1inch painters brush will do)

2. add enough oil to soak all the MJ, do not add too much oil!

3. put bowl into oven for 20 minutes @275 degrees, do not go over 300 degrees

4. after baking, let it cool and stick into capsules

should make 40-70 capsules, depending on the quality of MJ just 1-3 capsules will last at least 4 hours! Enjoy

Nattynattygurl, you could melt the cannabutter and use a syringe or some sort of dropper and fill the the empty gel capsules. Once you fill the capsules you have to freeze the remaining capsules or the cannabutter will spoil.

Whoa, those canna truffles sound killer, Thanks Dr J!! Oooh some of my friends are gonna be very pleasantly suprised with their holiday presents this year. :D

I've always enjoyed ingesting sacred herb in other ways, primarily eating but have tended to dose m'self too much. Have had much better luck with oil or hash in capsules...and whew what a ride.
