CMH Galaxy dimmable 315 watt ballast.

My electric bill was off the charts this Summer. I have a CMH ballast. Can I run this ballast with other bulbs? Specifically 400w HPS, and 400w MH; I'd be running them at the 315w setting. If I want to dim a bulb would I be better served to use the square wave ballast, over a high frequency ballast? My other ballast is 400w HPS/MH Quantum II sliver, Model# QT400.
Bulb manufacturer of HPS and MH bulbs I use says on packaging "can be used on most electronic ballasts" that got me wondering?
