UPDATE- I used some week old (Pineapple Chunk, a serious giver of hash) flurrf and bamm it was all there. Nice color, great flavor (it is a bit runny from the terps, I assume at this point in my reading) and a decent yield.
I forgot to weight the flower before I started.....I'm sure it has noting to do with the dabs. Next time I'll get the weight so I figure out my yield.

This pheno of Pineapple Chunk has always been very sticky, produces tons of finger hash while trimming. But it has never worked out well as BHO. To waxy and not stable. Pre98 Bubba Kush on the other hand makes crazy BHO, can't wait to squish some.

I have a open blast set up and didn't really want/need to spend the extra money for equipment to solve the problem. So it has been used for dry sift and edibles.
Looks like I'm gonna run all the old stuff anyway. It may not be as nice as the fresh stuff, but it is stable, packs a nice punch and looks like a bunch of my better runs of BHO.

Be Safe,

MK

looks really nice man! i don't know why using the plates to heat the rosin had never dawned on me. have you found a good temperature/amount of time that allows the separation to occur?

cool stuff mikell, i definitely followed you on ig

I pussyfooted this round and opened it a dozen times to observe and take temperature. I think the next one will be better. I am trying to find no lip 20-30ml jars to watch it.

Raised the oil to around 50C for an hour followed by 30-35C for a day. I had to set the plates much higher to do this, roughly double. For now it seems stable. Only lost 0.02g from 2.08g.

good info.

here are the jars i grabbed because this store is pretty close to my house. i believe these are them anyways... they have white, metal screw-on lids. afaik these are the ones everyone is using for the jartech stuff.

https://wellscan.ca/product/4oz-clea...0-neck-finish/

i would email and ask just to be sure, but you should be able to order them direct from wells.

edit - here is a picture of the ones i got from the store above. they look a bit different than the ones i linked though...

Very cool!

I've been using these jars (they have 2 and 4oz if you want larger sizes)

https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I sat a smaller jar on a heat mat for 36hrs without opening it and it ended up making the rosin 'carbonated'. It didn't bubble when sitting there, but if you disturbed the surface or even slightly stirred it, a million tiny little bubbles started forming and they stayed, made it almost look like an emulsion.

Life is easy when all of the resin heads are on the outside of the plant. I have this daydream about breeding a plant to produce smaller and smaller flower and more and more sugar leaf until the vast majority of the trichome head harvest is easily accessible via dry sifting without grinding up any buds.
However I don't completely disagree with the other guy about different terps. The leaves live in an environment with more airflow and more direct light than the stuff buried inside bud, so I can see how sugar leaf trichs might end up being a little different than their bud trich siblings because of those conditions.

People are making just those strains, even breeding for narrow bands of trichome size and ease of hash making. With macro photographs one can see the downside of many hype strains re: long thin stalks with strong head attachments. It makes the flower look dank to the naked eye but is garbage for hash.

There would be some variation, just as flowers from deep within the canopy will have developed differently.

Any Canadians looking for bags,

Kootenaybuynsell on eBay is nearly a buck a bag and he just did a custom order for that price. Free shipping to boot. Haven't used them in awhile but I don't recall any quality issues.

I am very interested in figuring out what makes a strain better for Rosin.

How much is strain, how much is cure?

Curing doesn't help produce rosin. tbh 'curing' is a bullshit notion in general, if your herb isn't top notch the moment it's dry, you did something terribly wrong.

Good rosin strains have fat greasy heads full of cannabinoids.
