Purple Kush SCROG Mills vs Amended Coco experiment 4x4 tent

Excited to share with yall!

I'm a week away from harvesting my first grow in 10 years, and overall I'm pleased. I was growing in a 2 sq ft foot print(2x1 hutch donated by a neighbor), and looking to get 1.5 oz after everything is dried. I'll post updates as they come along - the photo was from a week ago. Currently in mid flush on the Blueberry(left) and starting flush of Sour Diesel(right) next week.

Now that im reaching harvest time, im prepping for my next grow, and want to document it this time!

I've up the size this time, and going to be running a side by side comparison between Mills in a coco/perlite mix vs an organic amended coco/perlite mix. Both will be SCROGed under an Advanced XML 350 from seed in a 4x4 tent.

Im looking to learn about yield, taste, and difficulty of maintenance between these two methods.

I just transplanted a germinated Purple Kush seed into a 70/30 coco/perlite mix with a bit of kelp meal, some mycorrhizae, and watered with 1.5 ml/gal calmag ph to 5.8.

Hoping the other pops in the next day or two!

Hi Sam! Looks good. Whatever you do don't pull them early though. It's always worth waiting that little bit longer and getting the best possible product after all that hard work. The magic happens right at the end. :)

Thanks Insomniac!

I took advice from another grower friend and chopped off a small line from the Blueberry yesterday - partly to test my dry box, partly to get a gauge of difference in smoke at different picking stage. Yesterday was day 59 - Im planning on taking her down at day 65.

The sample I took was a bit loose and under a microscope i saw no amber crystals - looking forward to her thickening up a bit more!

Yes definitely worth waiting and reassessing in a week. They will put on weight and become more dense and the terpene profile will develop and mature. Yeah I'd be aiming for at least 50% amber with the rest cloudy. Clear indicates immaturity. Best of luck!

That looks a bit immature to me. When it's close to the end the pistils will retract and the buds will fatten. Getting close though.

Another Sample

Another Sample

Took another sample last night - a bit more weight on this one from expanding calyxes, but still no ambers yet. Going to give her at least a few more days. Also attached a photo of the current box with a lighter for sizr reference.

I think i had the colas too close together with not enough air movement on the sides, so they arent getting as dense as Id like - i maie my screen with 2" gaps vs 2.5", which I think makes a difference.

Regarding the new setup, my tent came in, and the first seedling is out! Waiting for the lights to come in to set it all up!

Overdue Update

Overdue Update

I've been busy at work and with travel, but have been able to keep this going strong. I ended up amending all initially with kelp meal and alfalfa meal, but it was enough to get through veg on it's own. Been feed it Mills ever since at 60%strength of the light feeding schedule, and they girls seem to love it.

2 issues ive had: temp. It keeps up to 90 in the middle of the day, but they still seem to be okay.

Light intensity: i started seeing some light bleaching last week, so raised the lights a bit. They seem to have had hit a vertical growth wall from where the light was too intense. They appear much happier now.

We're about to go into week 7 of flower. Here's a current pick - post it note for scale!

Extending the cycle

Extending the cycle

I stopped feeding nutes, but they still look a tad unripe - i had a bit of a lockout a few weeks into flower that required a flush and thus I think some stunter growth. Going to feed them an alternating schedule of kelp meal + molasses, then bone meal, then kelp + molasses, then flush. Think she has some ripening before flush
